Like it or Loathe it, Carlton will be a Powerhouse in the next 3 years

I don't know about dominating but it's definitely a good time to be a Carlton supporter, but I'd settle with just making the finals at this point in time.

Att: Fireman . . . BLEED :D

How's your cabinet going down at Moorabbin fireman? Considering your list and so called strength of late, surely it must be pretty full with "premierships" by now? Should I come down to make it bigger for the next phase of your success?

:D you keep talking about my club when the thread is about yours, but thanks for your concerns Slurpy Yep it's been tough all these years without cheating but hey, it's been great walloping you poor buggers especially knowing how much it must eat away at you Slurpy:D
Should you come down??How lower can you go:p
So do you want to see your side lose again this year for more picks?

Bleed? over what? I would be bleeding If I followed a dishonest rabble, your Pres just lost $30 mill due to dishonesty, what next?
and of course it's a good time to be a Carlton supporter...It's off season

It's called a learning curve. In over 100 years Carlton have never had a long bad period before. In fact, they have never had what would have been recognisable as a bad period when compared to other clubs. A long bad period for Carlton before the last few years was a decade without at least 2 premierships.

We'll see how Essendon handle the next 5 years. They've been similar to Carlton over the last 100 years and their period of extended time at the bottom is just about to arrive. It'll be interesting to see how they react, and how fans like you react to them when they do whatever they have to in order to get off the bottom.

I think you will find that in terms of flags, Carlton experienced a very long drought between 1947 and 1968 and as a club they down for a long time with the main problem being a quality players.

I hear so much crap from other supporters about Carlton being down over the past 5 years because of having a "losing" culture. It is obvious to anyone who has any idea about football at all, they are at the bottom of the ladder because they lack experienced talented players to match the other teams. That fact sticks out like canine testes!!!

If you don't have the cattle, IMHO it doesn't matter what culture you have, as you are not going to have any sustained success unless you have experienced players of ability.

As for any immediate success, at the moment they have an improving young midfield and 2-3 talented forwards, but they haven't had any quality tall defenders to speak off since Silvangi, Sexton, Dean and co retired and no ruckmen of any note.

While I don't know any Blues' supporter who think they are going to be flag contenders next year, it is hard to argue against that if they can recruit Judd and Stevens returns to fitness in 2008, Carlton are going to be a lot more competitive on field as their presence will be a huge assistance to Murphy and Gibbs etc, as they take a lot of the pressure and responsibility off them and they can develop at their own pace.

I have no doubt that their win/loss ratio will improve over the next 2-3 years, however for Carlton to be serious flag players, they have to recruit, draft or develop a tall ruckman (Kruezer?) and at least 2-3 tall quality defenders. Without these players, they will be a middle of the table team at best.

Judd
Stevens
Murphy
Gibbs
Simpson
Scotland
Kruezer

Fevola, Waite.

The rest doesnt matter, that midfield with those two targets will ensure big scores are posted every week.

I cant see too many sides matching that midfield might.

Dick Pratt could be the weak link as much as Carlton fans laud him as the saviour, there is a shady side to the man which will be scrutinised more so now he is the President of an AFL side.

You can't win flags without a decent defence. Carlton dont have one. Good luck to them anyway.

Carlton used to be such a proud club. Opposition supporters used to hate them but they used to respect them. There has never been more supporters of a team wanting their own team to lose games than there was last year. The respect that was earned over 100 years disappeared very quickly. quote]

Too right! :thumbsu:

Even in the Saints darkest hours, their supporters don't cheer their team on to lose. If there's ever a time to change the rules, it's now. Thanks to Carlton and it's willingness to bend over and take it up the a$$.

That makes a massive difference for them getting Judd or not by the way they've played over the past two seasons.

It's not like they bottomed out during that period though. They had 1 finish @ 10th (as low as they ever went b4 2002), and finished 5th numerous times (just missing finals) in that period along with;
1947 - 1st
1949 - 2nd
1952 - 4th
1957 - 4th
1959 - 2nd
1962 - 4th
1967 - 2nd

Clubs like StKilda and Freo would kill for results like that. Bear in mind that is probably the leanest period in Carlton's entire history too. Carlton have had to learn what to do to get off the bottom. They've got nobody in their club history with the experience to guide them in that scenario because they've never been there before.

They'll win a premiership very soon. They sent Ratten off to a garbage club to learn what to do to get off the bottom. He'll take them to yet another day in September to celebrate. He's the one guy at Carlton with experience at both ends of the ladder. :thumbsu:

Carlton still have an absolute mile to go before they become a powerhouse, can go either way. Still, much improvement from where they've been.

Key areas to winning a Premiership

1. Ruck - When Kruezer gets good. Carlton will get good. Until that time...

2. Defense - What defense. Satanta will be the back up ruck. I love Thornton but he's a 2nd or 3rd defender. You're not going anywhere without a better defender. (And no, Jason Saddington is not your saviour)

Firstly, we have a ruck - hampson. When he blossoms he will be a star.

Secondly, its no wonder others clubs think we are arrogant. They pick fights with us and expect us to say nothing.

We are a great club who had a bad patch - yes a terrible patch. We cheated and got caught a paid a massive price. If you guys think we are the only ones who paid outside of the salary cap your kidding yourselves. Why the hell would guys like Lowe and Harvey stay at St Kilda? Of course they were getting fed outside of fooball hours.

Essendon would have been cheating for sure, and Collingwood would have if they had any decent players or money in those days.

Its pretty simple - forget that we are Carlton for a second: You put all that talent in any team and of course they will be a powerhouse. Stkilda did it and should have won a flag but injuries killed them.

Collingwood will not be a top 6 team next year and I even have my doubts about top 8.

Carlton have more to look forward to than any other team over the next 5 years.

The biggest reason for this - Pagan is gone. This is more critical than Judd coming to Carlton.

Setanta at CHB, Jamison possibly at FB (maybe swap the previous 2), Thornton as 3rd defender.

Rucks next season will most likely be Cloke, Aisake / Ackland if he somehow improves

Defense is still very shaky but the foundations are there.
