What would be the point of elevating LOB and Cottrell this year, and moving Cuningham to the Rookie list?
The contract is the same, though. They get paid the same, there are no restrictions on them playing, it doesn't make any difference to either player if they get elevated this year or next.reward and incentive.
reward for cotts and LOB for good years
incentivise cuningham like we have with Kennedy and LOB - last chance warning
LOB and cotts have resigned havent they? i would be very surprised if they signed a rookie contract mid season and not wait for more
You're forgetting Jones, but let's say he's replaced by Sholl. At this stage I'm thinking that the list changes will be minimal.
Delist: E. Curnow (thanks for your service), Newnes, Fogarty, Williamson, Parks (r), Hayes (r)
Promote: Owies
Trade in: Sholl
Potentially delist MacDonald and let him do a pre-season proving his recovery before re-listing him.
From there if we get an offer too good to refuse for a fringe player we could do a trade. Otherwise we take two picks this year. Given we are only taking two draft picks we could potentially try to improve our second pick position or trade up higher next year.
Owies is Cat-B - he doesn't free up one of the 8 spots on the rookie list when he is upgraded. It's all pretty simple
Rookie List
Upgrade - Boyd & Owies
Delist - Parks & Hayes
Rookie Draft - Marchbank, + 1 other Rookie Draft/PSS/MSD
Main List
Retire - Curnow, Williamson & Jones
Delist - Fogarty & Marchbank (rookie)
Draft
Use first & second round picks at draft...
Use forth & fifth round pick on Boyd & Owies
Trade In - Sholl
Why would you do that? It's all pretty simple
Rookie List
Upgrade - Boyd
Rookie Draft - Marchbank
The other issue will be list places next year. We take 4 players on 2 year contracts and then the pressure becomes very real for players like Philp and Kemp.reward and incentive.

But moving them around doesn't make any difference. We're not struggling to make the minimum number of Senior List changes. There's no need and no advantage to moving 'injured players' to the rookie list.Think you are getting stuck on the rookie list being about $$$, we can use the rookie list to our advantage,
allows us to move list numbers around to keep injured players we want to keep...
ITK and club have made it clear they wont be making drastic list changes this year...
So we would need to find a way to keep player, best I can see is by moving them around
I agree, you can always promote/re-rookie players if the numbers don't match up. Rookie list means pretty much nothing these days.Let's stop sweating the small s**t, will be more about in the ins and outs, rather than who is and isn't on a rookie list

Pressure is on Philp anyway I would have thoughtThe other issue will be list places next year. We take 4 players on 2 year contracts and then the pressure becomes very real for players like Philp and Kemp.
Most of our older players will still have contracts
This is an interesting topic. Not worried about what the media or any hindsight hero has to say.
Not sure it'll be $6m but it may very well be 6+ years.
Sounds like us and SPS when he wanted outreading the crows board, sholl is all but gone leaving them arguing over whether he is a gun about to explode or a meteor who has sputtered out already.....
Sounds like us and SPS when he wanted out
Some mentioning rookie listing Marchbank. Would be a dumb move that could come back to bite us and wouldn't change the length of his contract or the $ so no benefit to us. If we delist with the intention to rerookie there's a fair chance someone offers him a better deal and even if they don't he would be a free agent for life. If we need to rejig main / rookie list numbers pick someone else.
Let's be honest - nobody is offering Marchbank a high value and/or long term contract to shark him from us.
We've also stood by him and clearly continue to rate him through an almost unreasonable amount of injuries. Doubt he's the type to cut and run for an extra year, or an extra $50k.
If he gets through the rest of the year uninjured they might given the position he plays. I agree it would be unlikely but why take the chance when there is no benefit to us rookie listing him?
Nope. Nobody, and I mean absolutely nobody, is offering a long term deal to Marchbank, even if he somehow strings together half a dozen games at the end of this year. Nobody is offering him big bucks either.
And he's well settled at our club and would know full well how highly we value him.
As to the benefit, there are considerations. Move Marchy to the rookie list, if he stays fit next season we can re-elevate him to the senior list and he counts as one of our three compulsory list changes. Like this season, rookie elevations and demotions can help to minimise the number of players we need to cut. It's not much, but it's handy - could save a delisting and the need to take a kid at Pick 50+ on a 2yr deal.
