I reckon he told them he was out months ago. Have a read of their board, they think he has been treated very poorly.

I thought one of the ITKs said a few weeks ago he was close to re-signing.

Not sure that whether he’s getting a game for his current club is particularly relevant.

Also don’t think this prevents us from going to the draft. There’s clearly room to do both.

If it's right that he has been earning $800k per year for 2019, 2020, 2021, then that works out to $160k per game played. Some of those weren't even very good. Ouch.

Has been absolutely fantastic this year though, far exceeding the expectations of everybody, and can be a superstar for years to come if he stays injury free.

I'd like to think he and the club will meet in the middle ground, good contract and financial security for him, but nothing silly like $1M per season. Works for both parties. I think it will happen.

It’s going to be very interesting. Clubs like North, Hawthorn, Essendon could probably all offer Harry and Curnow $1.2mil. Seems huge but we are paying Williams $800k so offering those two $1.2mil to complete their forward lines wouldn’t be silly at all. We won’t have to pay that but I do expect us to have to offer around that million mark.

3rd rounder = pick 60+, it isn't a high value asset.
If you think there's a chance that Sholl is a long term option, you do it.

Tend to agree that unless an absolute slider like a Busslinger is still available at our first pick, we select the best player available - then look at a project key tall with our 2nd round pick. Another I've read about who apparently has impressed is James Van Es - listed as a probable 2nd rounder.

I still reckons there's some gold out there with the over-agers who didn't get drafted over the past few covid affected national drafts....especially some of the Vic based kids. The Young Guns games earlier in the year displayed some of that talent out there like Culley and D'Ambrosio, as well as a bunch of others that didn't get picked up in the MSD....and these are the ones you'd likely pick up late in this year's ND or through the rookie draft.

I know Van Es quite well, upside is there but he's still quite raw.
 
I'm not a fan of sholl and I don't think we need Wingman.

We have midfielder that can rotate between inside and wing like Cerra, Walsh and Fisher. We also have defender that can push up on the wing like Docherty and Williams. Plus I think the development of LOB and Cottrell has been positive this year.

I do think we are one quality ready made midfielder short. I think Stocker or Kemp could step up into this roll. If not and we are looking to trade Fiorini would be the player I'll go after.

Fiorini stays at GC or goes to the Pies, plus, we don't need anymore one paced mids
 
For anyone interested this is most descriptive article I can find on the "secret" free agency compo formula. Interestingly anything spat out by the formula still needs to be approved by the AFL and they can change it if they think the result is unfair.

We don’t just play mids on the outside though, our wings have a very specific role involving a lot of running from point post to point post and holding width.

We’re playing 2 to 3 each week, and they’re the same guys for a reason.

Schol will be a cheap option and probably is close to a like-for-like replacement for Newnes on the list (ie genuinely wing-capable), but maybe 7 years younger (and faster by foot and a better kick, although not as big a body).

I don’t get why some are opposed to him coming across. We’re not burning a heap of trade capital or salary cap, he could maybe be in the 22 next year, and has scope to be on the list for a decade if things pan out right.

I appreciated that post, especially at the end of the article as to why AFL don't want to remove FA compensation. I'm one who says get rid of it, but now I get why AFL don't. Makes sense to some degree, although a counter-argument (which would only be an opinion) could be made...
