Think the chatter...
That we are heavily into Sean Darcy next year, makes sense for us...

Hope our 2023 OOC players have some value, to trade and replenish some of our picks...
Oh boy that’s interesting 👀

Btw when is Josh Rachele out of contract?? His the one I would LOVE to bring home, die hard blue growing up too

Tough to make a call so early, but I would release the following, if they don't improve and or continue to be out injured

First group: Dow, Fogarty, Philp, Marchbank, Cuners, Ed(ret)

Second group: Honey, Newman, Plowman

Guys like LOB, Cotts, JSos might struggle to be regulars beyond next year

Gone 100% in my book

Dow | Fogarty | Philp

Age against them

Ed | Newman | Plowman

Fitness will decide

Marchbank Cuningham McGovern Martin

Will keep spot

Honey

Will fall in pecking order

LoB Cottrell SOJ Owies and Fisher

From that list there’s O’Brien and Martin that are contracted past next year so they’re kind of a little different.

Not too far from my thoughts. I do have Plow in the likely departures with the arrival of Cowan and development of Kemp and Boyd. I can see Newman finishing his career on the rookie list as depth and an on field coach in the twos. The bloke is highly rated internally and undersold by many, if his body holds up, he will be there. Akuei will be interesting, a freebie, still with plenty of promise, but his output needs to lift. May get another year. Cuningham, is another rated internally, has some unique traits to offer if he can stay on the park. Will be given every opportunity to get his body right if it is not already. I am invested in Marchbank and will be somewhat devastated if he doesn’t get a good run at it. Hard to see Fog hanging on, doesn’t have the physical size to match his game. Agree Philp and Honey need big consolidating years, Josh a flip of the coin and Philpy has to stay healthy.

McGovern is my big watch. Plenty of rumours of wanting to return to Adelaide for his wife’s family connection. Will not get the same salary offered, even if he has a good year. We have committed the cap elsewhere, and there will be no big ticket retirees (we will save some from Dow’s ridiculous contract)

Newman is only 29. Provided his body holds up, I don't see why he couldn't go as long as Docherty.

I'm not his biggest fan but I also wouldn't be rushing him out the door prematurely either.

Agree with all of that Coona - there was a poster on here who suggested that Dow's contract is in excess of $500k!!! If Plowman is on @$400k, that would potentially ease salary cap pressure by close to a mill if both him and Dow are cut.

Our biggest priority re-signing this year is TDK - so may need a few $$ in the coffers to make a decent offer - cos there's zero doubt the poachers from down the Princes Hwy will come hard for him again.

Probably half of that. They need to be replaced.

Seen Jack S at various levels of in the gun in a few places here. Unbelievable!
Who are we leaving out to improve our run?

I doubt it will be anyone from the backline (as in creating a new spot)- we are struggling to fit them all in as it is. We have plenty of run there with everyone available.

The midfield 5 more or less pick themselves. You could argue Kennedy due to lower minutes, but it's his spot to lose.

We have more wingers than this year, so we are not going to "lose" a spot there.

Harry and Charlie play. Motlop and Fisher almost certainly play. If TDK does a full pre-season, he gets fitter and he almost certainly plays.

By a process of elimination, Jack is vulnerable, along with maybe playing one less small forward. Martin will need to be fully fit to be a certainty, but if he is, he will play in front of Jack. Kemp is gunning for a spot. His best chance is if Pittonet is not ready, but it is not ideal to have Jack rucking.

We can't pick the same 22 and expect to charge up the ladder. Who do you think is vulnerable in order to allow us to become a better running team?

2 or 3 more goals and we'd have already charged up the ladder - wholesale changes no, specific positional smarts, injury management, installation of belief, yes
Yes, but we have identified a lack of run as a key weakness (as have other clubs). We brought in Acres and drafted 3 runners to improve this issue.

I never mentioned wholesale changes, but you would assume one or two "specific positional smarts", which is exactly what I suggested. Jack's spot and potentially one less small forward is what I put forward.

What do you suggest, other than vague generalisations?

don't smart me, I was adding to the conversation like others do, if you want everyone to slavishly agree with every point you make, try religion.......

O'brien, Owies, Durdin, marchbank, Cottrel are vulnerable to upgraded runners and differing team balance. In this scenario small fwds would be fisher and motlop
We may play 1 ruck
The 7th defender spot Newman may go to Cowans.
Inside midsHewett, Kennedy may be replaced by an out/in mid like Carrol or Hollands....More likely in 12 months.
There are plenty of options, however, I still see Jsos playing 15 games. It is also entirely possible the draftees are not ready this year and we are having a conversation about 2024

I certainly don't expect that.

It was a football-specific response to another poster re JSOS. Your post was very general and didn't contradict what I had said, but had a tone of "I don't agree with you". Which is fine.

What I would like to know in a football-specific sense, is what you would do differently to add the identified lack of run to the team?

They are 2 of our best runners though? Marchbank is also very good endurance-wise for his size.

I don't see us waiting a year to fix a known problem, given we now have more options. Selection late in the year suggests we don't want to play Pitt, TDK and Jack in the same team.

Agree Carroll and Hollands are likely candidates to come in at some stage.

Add to that, tighten up the defensive system & opposition run ons at times and we can have anywhere between a 3-6 goal turnaround improvement…

I don't agree about Owies or LOB, but I agree with pretty much the rest of this assessment
Rapidly losing patience with Fisher..
I don't know exactly what's gone sour with him, but he has not kicked on as I hoped.

With our growing depth and last few (imho) very solid national draft selections, if Fish doesn't go back to something resembling hid form of his first couple of seasons in the AFL, I can see him being shown the door/traded by Vossy.
