Not sure if we have a trade thread yet.

FA list is out. Graham would still be handy. Ainsworth and Hayward would be very hand in our forward line - surprised they are on the coin to make them restricted free agents. Parfitt has the port connection - not sure if he fits in our midfield? Perryman ain’t moving.

No real small forwards.

We don’t want for much.

As of round 3, I’d say small forward and wing look our least settled positions. Stengle and Perryman would be a clear upgrade on what we have currently but it’s a salary cap league and we must be a little tighter after bringing in 4 players last year.

Perryman I think is a terrific footballer.

in a playing/coaching role could be worth a look. I’d like us to start treating the sub as a specialist position rather than the 23rd player. It should either be someone fast and attacking or an experienced ball winner in my opinion.

We could easily trade out a half back too.

Parfitt I think we've always liked.

His defensive game is outstanding he does work his backside off. Could possibly run him of the wing though the middle?

We'd enquire but being only 25 and the Cats list being where it is at I don't see him going anywhere.

I am pretty happy with the list at the moment but will do a bit of a deep dive when I have the time.

The majority of our best players are young so we have the possibility of a long, strong window ahead of us.

As I it is we’re trying to wedge mead into the 22 and arguably we’re only doing that cause we don’t have a proper wingman in better form so we’re picking a centre mid and trying to fit him in somewhere.

As soon as spp is back it will be even harder for mead to keep his spot.

And mead is in pretty decent form as well.

Bergman has shown he’s very capable of rolling through the middle, and if we had an injury crisis I would put him in the middle over Jack Graham every day of the week.


Graham and parfitt are nothing other than midfield depth and paying free agency money for players expected to play 0-5 games , maybe 10 games if you had a horrid injury run is silly

Unless either of those players are happy to take near min coin 2 year contracts to be sanfl players hard pass.

All of Port’s key players that the Saint would be interested in are all contracted.

People will say Bergman, as they could do with another HB/wing, but Bergman seems pretty comfortable in Adelaide and contracted.

If someone wanted to go to the saints though, you would hope Port asked for Wanganeen-Milera. Saints would say no, but what a gun.

Neither were McKenzie, Sav or Evans. Plenty of players are around the 22 but can contribute at another club. You aren’t a fan of Mead (going on old posts) - Parfitt and Graham would be an upgrade on him based on current output and experience. Both are good two way runners, experienced and can play a variety of roles.

The challenge for the list is the midfield and small forward depth. We have no picks, minimal trade capital. Boak and Wines - who knows how long they last and at what output. Mead, Sinn and Jackson - all have potential but have barely got on the park and aren’t ready cover. Bergmann might be able to step up but who knows. As I said, JHF got replaced by a back flanker, because we just don’t have the depth.

So yea Graham and Parfitt would be handy. SA boys, free agents. Probably won’t cost much.

Yeah i'm not sold on Stengle either. But i would take the risk on him.

Hopefully by the time any of NWM/Pickett/Phillipou's current contracts run out, we will have retained some picks. Or they'll be free agents.

Either way i think this is all 2-4 years down the track

Phillipou is a weird one. I really like him as a player, liked him as a junior, and he’s a big port fan. He’s coming occ and I think the last high draft pick from that draft who hasn’t extended. He looks a real chance to leave right now.

But there’s some real issues about recruiting him

1. He’s currently a half forward flanker , who some hope will turn into a midfielder. Maybe he does maybe he doesn’t, I’m not sure, but thanks to the high draft pick saints paid for him they’ll want “midfield potential” trade value paid for him.

As a hff with his returns, he really shouldn’t be worth more than a pick between 20-30. A good case in point is spp, whose trade value (if ooc) we would get for him would be a 2nd rounder at best, 3rd + steak knives if a team wanted to **** us over.

But the asking price for phillipou cause of recent draft pick + “midfield potential” + vic club dealing with interstate club media push would likely be 2 first rounders or the equivalent and have to work down from there.

We don’t have anything like that of course, and as I’m a fan of phillipou I’m still not sure about his midfield potential and damn sure I’m not paying through the roof for a flanker unless said flanker is elite.

2. Fit / need. Whether he’s a hff or an onballer I’m not sure where he fits. I’m not sure we would be crying out for a tall marking flanker if we’re playing 3 key forwards. I’m personally ok with trying 3 talls + a tall flanker but I don’t think our club would do that. As an onballer he’s competing with a lot of other far better young mids. I’m more than okay with finding out how he fits, not sure if I want to pay through the roof for a guy we don’t know exactly how he fits.

I would like phillipou at the club. I’m not sure we need phillipou at the club for the price he would cost.

You just named several guys we picked up as delisted players, not free agents.

Ironically, Picket and Day were picks 12 and 13 in the 2019 draft (although my recollection was there was much angst at the thought of us taking Pickett). We had pick 14 and selected Bergman.
Wanganeen-Milera was pick 11 in the 2021 draft and we selected Sinn at pick 12. I think we had been linked to Milera a fair bit leading up.
