Our ooc players according to footywire

I doubt zerk is correct, he likely signed a new contract when he was traded here.

Status
Brandon Zerk-Thatcher
NFA / sign (prob already)
Dylan Williams
UFA / delist
Hugh Jackson
NFA / some hope for him but needs to debut this year or delist
Ivan Soldo
NFA / explore trade but don’t think he has any worthwhile trade value. Might as well keep on 1 year deal as depth unless we can get a top 40 draft pick.
Jase Burgoyne
NFA / sign
Jed McEntee
NFA / delist
Jeremy Finlayson
NFA / ? Has his rightful detractors. Neither here nor there. He’s ok depth in my eyes. Would prob give him another year as we will already be cutting deep this year.
Josh Lai
NFA / dunno yet
Josh Sinn
NFA / sign
Kane Farrell
RFA / sign unless he’s getting band 1. We’ve already lost a long kicking running halfback. We lack drive from hbf now. He’s pretty important now. And this draft is not a good one at all reportedly with so many linked to clubs already. Don’t see the point in getting pick 28 that will turn into pick 40 in a weak draft.
Lachlan Charleson
NFA / unsure. Need to see something from him this year.
Logan Evans
NFA / sign
Miles Bergman
NFA / absolute priority signing
Rory Atkins
UFA / delist
Ryan Burton
NFA / meh. Don’t care either way. If we cut heavy maybe we keep him as senior depth and see what he does under Carr. If we need the list spots cut.
Tom Anastasopoulos
NFA / unsure. Needs to show something this year. I would be hesitant to keep both him and Charleston after signing berry and Richard’s. The football equivalent of snapping a pool cue and telling them we’ve got a spot for one
Tom Cochrane
NFA / ? Unsure but I don’t have much hope for him as an afl player
Travis Boak
UFA / Retire, ffs
Will Lorenz
nfa / sign

That’s 6-11 list changes just there ^

Trade bait -

- mead (lucky he’s got a contract) I would delist if he didn’t. I doubt anyone bites and takes him. I would accept a pick upgrade in the 4th round for him. Think we’re stuck with him.

Jones - would test the waters on him, but I don’t think we would get enough. Wouldn’t let him go for less than a 2nd rounder really. Maybe at that price there’s some vague interest? Otherwise keep him and see what Carr does with him.

Possibly also suss out markets for spp and lord but doubt they get offers that warrant us moving them on. Lord would only be a type I would trade for overs and I don’t think we’re the club to get that.

Spp just signed a new deal , were stuck with him for a few more years , dumb decision at the time and only looks worse by the week

Seems coaching staff aren’t confident in Lord. But I think he needs to play just for team structure. Luko was just looking for little 15m hit up leads last night. And Mitch is useless if they apply body to him stopping his leap. Lord sits in that drop zone 20-30m out just give us a contest. And also chop out in the ruck. Similar to what Keefe does for GWS, I don’t think anyone believes his best 22 on talent at GWS, his there for structure.

Yeah this was obvious & hoped Lord was picked. Funny we see it, but coaches (Cornes) can’t .

McRae turned it around in two years probably with less.

The list isn't the problem. We've been to finals four of the last five years.
It is the coaching that doesn't have a Creed worthy bone in his body.
It's been 13 years of poor coaching.
A good coach could've nabbed us a couple of flags in Hinkley's time.
Difference is McRae’s side had never failed on the big stage
Our guys have been choking for years.
We need a clean out, nothing short of that will work.

McRae's sides have never failed on the big stage. They didn't make finals last year. And McRae is a very good coach. The previous guy, Buckley, not so much. McRae turned them around very quickly.

Yes, our guys have been choking under Ken for years. Lets see what Carr can do.

The question is why have they been choking for years.
The answer is Ken Hinkley and his lack of tactical nous.

Kenny's strategies and tactics have been so poor in the last five years or so in big games that I've actually gone a bit softer on Boak's career because I use to say he'd never played well in finals but that is not the case and Hinkley's terrible coaching could be worth a deficit of up to 30ish point a game before a ball is even bounced.

I understand people are emotional but I agree that a clean out is needed but not to the extent that you are talking about.

A smart club would hit up Luko on those little leads given his kicking prowess and in the process make Moore accountable and stretch their defence.

Not Ken's Port though.

Well to be fair, when he was hit up a couple times he dropped it.

The worst part about all of this is that if Carr took over now, he'd be hamstrung by a lack of preparation for the role and his hodge-podge lineup of coaching assistants.

Dude needs to take a broom to the whole place next year.

This is just embarrassing. Do we really need to skimp so much on paying good assistants just so daddy gets a big pay day?

Yep. His first goal came from a pretty shanked snapshot that bounced fortuitously. Moments later he dropped an overhead, uncontested mark in the middle of the ground (Aliir pass) that was turned over for a Collingwood forward 50 entry. He also spilled at least one marking opportunity close to goal when he had the sit on a smaller opponent. Other times failed to bring the ball to ground against Moore.

He needs to do more than take uncontested chest marks against weak opponents when our midfield is dominating.

I've been arguing with mates that Ports list is undersized and physically limited for a while now. I don't think we're soft per se and when it's our turn we go. But aggressive attack on the ball and man is certainly not natural or something that is our first instinct.

I can think of very few players in our side that have the physical size, the ability and the desire to physically impose themselves on the game.

Wines maybe sometimes. SPP can but is unfit. Bergman kinda but not as a KPP. Sweet kinda sort of not really. Lachie Jones is a lump but doesn't know what to do. JHF will get it one day. Butters would love to but is a flea.

This is why I always had a lot of time for Dixon. He provided that in spades.

It's a glaringly obvious flaw in our makeup. We always seem skinny or short. Often both. I think it's one of the major factors of why we go OK in the regular season but fail when the blowtorch is on in finals.

At the end of the day the modern game of AFL is a running game, but you need at least one person on each line that can create mental pressure through physicality. Someone that can fly the flag. Lay a massive tackle. Burst out of a pack, not with agility but with power.

We're listless, anaemic and not at all like the Port I knew growing up... which were not always the most talented, fast or nimble, but always had players that could do the above.

Something Josh Carr and the recruiters should be addressing as a priority
