Lovett to Saints for Ist Round Pick

Re: Lovett a Saint

End of Stephen Milne??? or Schneider???

Quality kick for goal, quick, good tackling ability. Might be the forward pocket they are wanting.

You'd think so, Saints have developed an astute football department. Now all they need to do is snare another big goalkicker to help out Reiwoldt and free up Kosi.

Re: Lovett a Saint

Wow, that about sums it up, truley a great deal for the saints. Surely Luke Ball will bring that missing piece of the puzzle upon his trade, perhaps, and I didn't see it, that we may in turn be a fair bit stronger for next season.

Re: Lovett a Saint

You'd assume Nick Riewoldt signed off on this?

What were his words to Lovett last year?

"You ******* belt your missus!"?

Something like that.

Interesting times.

My god people over-rate draft picks.

Saints got a proven match winner who has at least 3 years of top shelf football left in him for pick 16 in a weak draft.

Happy that Essendon got something for him as he could easily have gone into the PSD meaning the Bombers got nothing in return. However I'd be shocked if ten years worth of pick 16 in this draft turns out to be better than 3 years of Andrew Lovett.

Re: Lovett a Saint

Can't say I'm overly happy with that trade. Think we should of done at a lot better. We just lost Lovett, Lloyd and Lucas. Trading Lovett for a draft pick (first round, yes I know) doesn't really do it for me. Surely we'd be looking to replace the game experience we just lost. If that's our only trade for the week, I think next year will look mighty grim indeed.

People here keep stressing Lovett is not worth a first round pick. There are first round picks and there are first round picks. Lovett is not worth a first round pick if that pick is a single figure pick. But pick 16 is closer to a second round pick then it is to a top 10 pick. Add the fact that this draft is shallow and the Saints have done a good deal that both sides can be pleased about.
This also suggests that St Kilda must be pretty confident of getting a fairly high pick (10-17) in return for Ball as they would still want a selection in the first round of talented kids.

Re: Lovett a Saint

I reckon thats a pretty fair trade for both teams. At pick 16 there should still be some quality and I reckon Lovett will fit in nicely at the Saints.

Sad to see him go but best of luck to him.

Lyon, Riewoldt and Hayes met with him at least once. I heard Riewoldt met with him twice

Great trade.

Bombers can hold off for Burgoyne.

Or use their earlier pick to get Ball. ;) :D

Two to three goals a game from Lovett will win the Saints a flag.

Though I want to hear from JeffDunne about the Saints cleaning up their culture. :)
Although, McLean is apparently worth 11.
Andrew Walker needed a designated driver.

:thumbsu:

Re: Lovett a Saint

Essendon have done very well to get that type of compensation for an uncontracted player who wanted a 3 year deal at his age, and who argubly still has a lot of flaws to his game.

He will give the Saints a goal kicking midfielder though, which is something they certainly needed.
