He has pleaded not guilty and will stand trial in September. Could this have an effect on St.Kilda's finals campaign? A few players will have to give evidence...

It will have absolutely ZERO effect on their finals. Lovett has not been there all year, he will be the last thing on their mind I would imagine.

Some of the players have to go to court to give evidence. It may affect them is what I'm thinking.

Possibly, though It does not sound like any of them will be getting grilled for hours and hours on the stand. Most of them will just relate what they saw, of which Jason Gram it seems is the most involved. Can't see that they will be inconvenienced for too long. It is a pain in the but time to reschedule a case though, but shit happens.

Have they even set a trial date?

It might be Oct/Nov before they even have to take to the stands

Also could the media please start to refer to Lovett as an ex-bomber, he never played a game for us and barely even trained with us.

How about ex-AFL

Its a wonder that the media hasn't mentioned his race, they usually do, have not seen a headline about a fourth generation of irish decent on charges.

Lovett's a sad case. There are no winners out of this.

As for affecting the Saints Finals campaign, who can really know? But I'd suggest that they'll be able to put it aside, especially now that there is some clarity about what's happening.

Sounds like he had sex with her, she was up for it but thought it was Gram??

And when she realised it wasn't who she thought it was, lost it?

Yep sounds that way doesn't it. Surely that is her fault if that's the case.

Sounds a likely explaination to me. I think the fact she was by several reports, completely poleaxed. Will actually count very far to Lovetts defence. I'm confident he will get cleared.

Rape charges in general are very very hard to prove.... usually it one persons says this happens and the other person says that happened and therefore very hard to prove without witnesses etc.

Also the fact she was totally drunk does not help.. they will use this against her.

If that is the case, I can't see why the Saints could sack him over it. Yes yes I know there was other reasons, but it is pretty obvious this was the main reason. The whole event has made me respect the Saints even less, and it wasn't all that high before the incident.

Do you think she said yes in her sleep?

"McQualter, who had not been drinking that night, said that later in the night when he went to Gram's apartment, he saw the complainant sitting on the ground and crying near the apartment entrance.

McQualter testified that he heard the woman tell Gram: “I was asleep and I woke up with him f---ing the shit out of me, I didn't even know who it was”. McQualter said Gram and the woman then hugged and she said: "I thought it was you"."

In which case she certainly was r*ped. I highly doubt she was in any state to know who was doing what until too late. Hope this prick gets whats coming. Her friend finds her curled up and inconsoleable saying she was r*ped, sounds ominous to me.

It will have absolutely ZERO effect on their finals. Lovett has not been there all year, he will be the last thing on their mind I would imagine.

Unfortunately his trail will do more than just derailing a finals campaign. Lovett's issue will put unnecessary stain on the reputation of the entire St Kilda football club. Other than the Lovett rape case, there have been two previous cases of sex related cases with the Milne, Montagna incident as well as the football clinic teen pregnancy incident.

This does not help St Kilda and its stakeholders any help at all. First it gives people a bad impression of its recruitment department of not doing enough research. Second, it's the social attitude to St Kilda and their players. Women will think twice bout dating st kilda players. Future players may not want to go St Kilda. Other players might think twice about receiving players coming from St Kilda in case he is a sex offender.

St Kilda need to be quick and decisive in cutting out Lovett. Stipulate Lovett has nothing to do with St Kilda. Ditch him now. After this year reveal the main culprit in the footy clinic and offer him to the police. Get rid of Milne and Montagna. Be ruthless, be decisive, cut out the cancerous part of the club and start anew.

If St Kilda doesn't act decisively, they are in serious trouble of becoming misunderstood by the public. Take me for instance, i will never allow my kids to hang out with any saints player. I will never allow my sons to be drafted or traded to St Kilda. I will certainly not associate with any St Kilda players.

That might all be, but none of those people take to the field in the finals. The club may feel the effects, but I think the playing group itself will not be effected so much.

You either have a sick sense of humour or a warped mind ............

Since when has been drunk and asleep been an invitation for anyone to have sex with a women ??? Would you be saying the same thing if it was your sister who woke up and had some idiot forcing himself into her as she slept ???

I hope the guy is sent to jail and wakes up with someone in him .............
