Macrae a Bulldog for life

Pendlebury and Sidebottom are best 22 players for Collingwood. Daniel and Macrae aren’t best 22 players for us anymore.

It’s quite simple.
Your welcome to your opinion but if you think Gallagher and Harmes are better midfielders than Macrae I must be a poor judge of ability.

You said every club and you scraped the bottom of the barrel with stringer, Atkins and Campbell. Proves my point.

By directly playing them in the VFL and making them subs demoralized them and shattered both their confidence and standing amongst their teammates. What did you expect these actions to have?
I said every club does it, I didn't say every club does it every single year. You added that bit.

Anyway I gave you a bunch of names, doesn't prove your point at all. Do you disagree they are vets that are looking to lengthen their careers? Whatever doesn't matter, keep moving the goal posts if you want, if it helps justify you throwing the toys out of the cot.

Playing them in the VFL is still not forcing them to leave. Even still Caleb said he was happy to stay unless a good deal could be found.

Hi Bulldogs, I come in peace.
First up to the posters who came to our board to send best wishes for Jack Macrae was much appreciated and shows the obvious quality of character he must have to be so well loved.
As I said, will always be a Bulldogs Premiership player.
This thread just shows the changes to the football landscape. When first posted it was reasonable to assume a 5 year contract would see him out as a Dog. Contracts mean Jack Schitt nowadays.

Obviously the coaching wanted to go in a different direction and Macrae is a pure inside mid. He will be used there as the Saints lost Crouch and we are light on for quality mids.
Good luck, a decent outcome, you get about 400k a year off the books and depth in Kennedy.

The bunch of names you gave to justify your point proves very little, they are absolute plodders and you want to compare Macrae and Daniel with them.

Honest question are you a BFB (Bevo Fan Boy)?

Thank you.

Wish Jack all the best. He has been a great player for our club for many years. A premiership player forever at the Dogs and 3x All Australian. He was one of those players who went under the radar but was just reliable week in week out.

Did Seb Ross play at all this year too? I'd have thought Macrae would be filling a void for both he and Crouch.

I've been disappointed with our coach for a number of years to be fair though, this move should prolong Jacks career, I don't blame him one bit going somewhere with better immediate playing security, so I wish him all the best, hopefully he becomes a 300 gamer in the next 3 years.

Anyways looking forward, losing both Caleb and Jack on top of the petulant child who went down the highway will hurt our experience stocks I feel.

Kinda need Kennedy and Harmes to have good years next year on top of some breakout years from the kids coming through to fill the void.

Gallagher played 15% on ball this year Harmes 10% he isn't fighting them for midfield spot
I think he is. Obviously in Jack’s ideal world he would be in the guts at every opportunity. Failing that, I think he would have been happy in the roles he has been asked to play at AFL level this year. What I don’t think he can stomach is the relegation to the VFL and substitute appearances. That is the reason for him leaving in my opinion.

In other news, I’ve just put $30 on him to win the Brownlow.

Brownlow might be a stretch while Lachie Neale and Paddy Cripps are still getting 3 votes just for putting the jumper on, but I'd love it if Jacko won St Kilda's B&F in 2025.

He wasn’t good at the roles that was the point hence we upgraded getting Kennedy in

Could make a case he’s our best finals player ever. Had some absolute monster games when it mattered. His 39 touch game vs the Hawks in 2016 along with his 39 touch game vs Brisbane (both semi finals) stand out.

Also kicked huge goals in both GF runs. The sealer vs GWS and vs Brisbane were crucial.

I’m sure people who have seen more footy could make a list, but where does he rank in bulldogs midfielders? Bont, Liber, West and Hawkins would be the only clear ones ahead. Splitting hairs between him and Boyd. Pretty crazy we have had probably 3 of our best 5 midfielders ever and in my view wasted it.

That was my thought also, he was always in Bont’s shadow, now is his moment.

If we're talking absolute best, I'd have Cooney and Griffen ahead of him.
If we're talking consistency over their careers, I'd have him where you placed him. Above Boyd for me.

I'd probably still go Boyd for best as well his 2010-2013 years were huge for the period 30 disposal averages then actually meant something,

Think the main thing that will always hold Jacko back was scoreboard impact despite his GA always being good never hit double digits for goals in a season

Personally I think Boyd's disposal quality puts him down a notch. Macrae definitely prone to the odd floater or scrubber as well, but think he had Boyd covered in that regard. Both very good players obviously.

100% for me guys like Macrae/Boyd you're splitting hairs and is entirely opinion based anyway!

For me that I have seen:
1 - Bont
2 - West
3 - Griffin
4 - Cooney
5 - Libba
6 - M.Boyd
7 - Macrae

If you're talking mids, Royal and McGuiness are up there. Cost each other the Brownlow one year by both having outstanding seasons. Both consistent over a long period too.

George Bissett went ok. Umpire stuff up cost him a Brownlow too (1969).
For those of us who are really aged, Stewie Magee and David Thorpe were handy. Both were captains, too.

Thorpie was a massive accumulator. About as accurate with his disposal as our departed #6 though. Certainly busted his ar5e as captain in 73, ran himself ragged trying to lift his team. Pity he got ahead of himself with prompting from a committeeman to dabble in club politics.

Loved Stewie, but posted some time back about his disconcerting habit of strolling out of post-game showers into the main clubrooms while fans were still in attendance with nothing but a towel... draped over his shoulder! He got dressed right next to my mate and I one day, we were sort of trapped by him and others nearby, took an intent interest in the pipes running along the ceiling! 😲

My Dad worked with him briefly years later. As a migrant with highly accented English, Dad was impressed that Stewie always had time for a chat, or at the least made sure to always say hello. 🙂

Funnily enough I 'met' Thorpe in late 75 through Dad too. Dad was buying a (brand new!) XB Falcon at Col Paige Ford with me in tow and Thorpe was one of the salesmen. Unfortunately the car sales guys weren't as forgiving of Dad's English as Stewie Magee. By then I wasn't a fan of Tiger Thorpe anyway, but gee he had tickets on himself among his colleagues. Haven't been a fan since. I attended the 77 div 2 GF barracking for Yarraville against Mordialloc, in spite of Thorpe being captain coach of Yarraville, and an ex-Footscray captain.

Anyway, enough about my lifelong grudges! 😄

Young Pagnoccolo went ok briefly, was like a shooting star for that 1970 season. Coincidentally, he finished his career at Mordiallic in the early 80s.

Ah, the good old days, eh GDB?! 🤔
