Was anyone one listening when Cornsey and Rowey tonight when they were going on about the Crows making a big announcement on monday?

Were going on that Triggy has called a big Press Conference for the day down at the club and they were mermering to each other that it was probably about money or a sponsor but I was wondering if there is anything else that could be happening or being announced other then finacial topics.:footy:

Simon Goodwin is stepping aside as captain and the club is making Brad Symes captain :thumbsu::p

I'm scared now...

haha I just went on the Crows website and the first thing I saw was a photo of Tyson Edwards and I was like OMG HE'S RETIRING but then I scrolled down to see he's been nominated for the best individual game.

Fingers crossed that it's good news

Edit: MAYBE it's that the Crows are going to refuse to play at Adelaide Oval?? I just told my parents and that's what they said - because really, Crows have no reason to go to Adelaide Oval because AAMI offers them more (and Adelaide Oval will hold 500 more people, wow, so the Crows can increase their membership by 500...) But yes...I HATE THIS! ANNOUNCE IT NOW!

They said that Trigg, Craig, Goodwin would be available for vision and the entire squad would be in attendance, that usually happens for a retirement or a sponsorship renewal. Doubt it's a captaincy thing and couldn't see why the entire squad would be there for an AO announcement

Ahh ok. Yeah, true, I didn't hear what they said so I didn't know the whole squad will be there. Why would the whole squad be there for a sponsorship renewal??
Now I'm scared someone is going to retire! :(:(

I think the only sponsorship might be Fielders being officially announced as our short sponsor, that could be it but I doubt they'd call everybody there for a short sponsorship announcement. Doubt it would be a major sponsor Toyota/Camry have that fully wrapped up I believe until 2012 (4 year deal in 2008?) and have switched it over to the Hybrid Camry just this year. Rowey and Cornsey were just speculating about maybe sponsorship being involved.

Adelaide oval announcement wouldn't be out of the question either I would think just to clarify our position on the future move.

Maybe it will be "we've folded to public pressure - we're changing our logo back & changing our away guernsey" ;) we can only hope! :p (although I've grown to just accept the new logo but I still prefer the old one)

I'm stressing out now! Stupid Club, why not say nothing until the announcement  and no doubt it will be something small, like they've signed Craig on for a couple of more years or something.

last time they were all there, get all the players out for a photo op around the Toyota chairman, blah, blah, yadda yadda. Its just the done thing to show full support. Unless its Burton I would be dirty on anyone retiring now

I don't see anyone doing a dog act retirement like a Kenelly & Fosdike done to Sydney last year in the Pre-Season leaving them short of two players for the entire 2009. I'm pretty sure if anyone was thinking of retiring and or had any doubts about playing in 2010 Craig would've made sure they'd retire before before last years final list lodgement.

It's not a dog act if something unforeseeable happens to derail your prospects for the season though. I wouldn't be dark on one of our senior players if they decided to call it quits after picking up an injury that was going keep them out most of the year, or something along those lines.

True but if they use the excuses "I've lost the passion to play" or "I wasn't able to get over an injury as well as i thought i could" especially if they are a senior player they should've known this before the end of last year not wait until the cusp of a new season to leave the game and leave your team short in the squad list and in leadership.

It is a hard one to decipher though because most players want to play forever and the club feels obliged to give them another year something our club prides it self on not doing which is a very brave policy and one which fans have complained about in the past when the club decides to cut a player who they belive has had their day.

Most of those pre-season retirements are driven by injury. The player goes into the pre-season hoping that they'll get over their problem, only to find half-way through that their body just isn't up to it. It's not like any of our veterans had degenerative injuries which kept them out of the side late in the year, or at least none that the club has disclosed. I guess there's Macca's knees - but he's been managing them for years.

My guess is that it's a retirement announcement - but of the "this is my last season, but I'm not retiring until the end of the year" type of thing. Mind you, that's only a guess.

DON'T SAY THAT! That could be like Bock or VB! :(

Don't know about that Vader, mainly because with the way the AFC is run now I'm not sure they would opt to have the spectre of a swansong for a club legend or two hanging over our campaign from the start. Mind you Ricciuto did announce his retirement before the 07 finals series...

I think if it's a genuine injury that has occured in the Pre-Season such as a total knee reco, a broken leg or a tearing of a hamstring or a calf ect. then yes you understand why they have to and you give them all the best in their future indevours but if they carried an injury from last year they really should've decided the year before.

Probably just a couple of young players out late on the turps again and missed their curfew by 20 mins:rolleyes:

Agree with Amer that I don't think we'd be keen to announce an end of year retirement this early. It's a funny one, can't be anything too sudden or immenent, otherwise they would have announced it today, so its clearly something thats been happening behind closed doors for a while.

It's Toyota's 20th year as sponsor, I still reckon its some announcement around them more than anything else.

Could be it but the Crows have not made any kerfuffle about it being the clubs 20th year in existance so why now with the sponsorship? I thought due to no announcements and or merchandise relating to our 20th year that the club was going to wait until next year before celebrating it, considering although all of our stuff says est.1990 we came about real late in that year and maybe the club considers our start to be more in 1991 and our 20th year in 2011. Although we did have some sort of celebration in the year 2000 for a 10th year anniversary

Maybe it's the launch of our 20th season celebrations../

Maybe its free memberships for everyone?:D

I really hope its a new sponsor since we have not heard anything to suggest a retirement from anyone

Gee, I'm as clueless as we all are on this bit of intrigue, but I can't see it being that Vader. Surely that wouldn't warrant having Senior officials, the captain and all the players present for just a long -term retirement announcement. I hope not anyway.

if it were something sinister you'd think that the club would have announced it today to prevent rumours or leakage.

One possibility would be announcing an additional major sponsor as that is regarded as a club-wise thing.

Another would be that they weren't moving to Adelaide Oval, and were staying at their spiritual home, West Lakes. However, they could only do that if they had come up with a major flaw in the whole she-bang that affected the crows adversely, and one would think that it's probably far too early for that and wouldn't really necessitate the players being there either.

It could be the retirement of one of the senior players, but if it were to be that IMO it would be an immediate retirement to justify the players being there. Hope not.

I'm with aneale on this one, sponsorship or retirement.

Hopefully it's a case of show me the money!!
