That’s the thing most missed last year. Everyone focussed on McStay kicking 2 goals a game.
But I think it was something like 3-4 contests that he was involved in that the oppo marked it. That was what he did that impressed me the most.
He just didn’t get beaten. That caused so many opportunities for our ground crew.
With him out this year, we need someone to replace that role.
Not sure reef or AH are it.

Time will tell. But he was more than serviceable today in my book.
With McStay out I think there's a chance that we turn to one ruck and Kruger plays forward and chop out ruck. It won't start the season that way though.

Yes he did Jen.

Sorry, but IMO that’s a bad take.

His role was to compete and bring it to ground. He did that very well. Often outnumbered.

If we role up with him playing fwd this year, I’m comfortable he does his job.

Strong under the contest and doesn’t get outmarked. That’s his gig.
I've liked what I've seen from Krueger in the past 2 matches.

Seems much less reckless. Taken some good marks. Looking to bring other players into it, some assists, clever taps, etc.

A chance.
That’s Cox biggest downfall as a fwd. he either marks it…or they do.

But assuming pre-season has been ok. Cameron/cox gets first dibs.
With aj/reef/kreugs replacing McStay.
Just feel both AJ and reef can’t compete on the stationary high ball like McStay.
Agree that kreugs has them covered in this space.
Just depends what we’re looking for.

Suspect if aj/reef get outmarked a bit the dial will turn quickly.

Who played on Larkey? Was it Frampton or Dean?

Mostly frampton. But had no support.

He kicked 3 from “curnowesque” frees. And another when he marked it with the biggest shove in the back from Zurhar was ignored.
If it’s finals….he kicks 1-2.
Wasn’t the most impressive display TBH.

To be fair, he balanced those by missing some easy ones. Quality player.

Our def just didn’t support as per normal. Left one out a lot.

I didn't expect much from our defence today considering those players have not played together much at all .. whilst missing Moore, Howe, Murphy & Bruz 🙃

I thought we looked disorganised and with limited leadership.

Despite the young team, I didn’t see anyone driving the organising like we do normally.

Doesn’t help when you keep turning it over midfield and leaving everyone exposed like we did.

No injuries and great exposure. Wins for us.

Would have been left mainly to IQ I guess, with all our most experienced defenders (& our leaders) not playing.

In comparison, Roo's had a pretty settled, more experienced forward line. We had a real mish mash defence today. Still good to see Dean, Ryan, Noble out there.

Always a relief for no injuries & just good to see Shoota, Fin, Sullivan, TJ, Bytel, Reef etc all getting game time.

Thanks. That was going to be my next question. Reports are talking up Larkey’s 5 and saying he’ll be in contention for the Coleman off that performance but I felt like I needed some context as to how impressive the 5 goals were.

You guys have a steal in Lachie Sullivan, you have to really ask why the 17 other clubs passed him over, year after year. Why aren't recruiters held accountable?
Agree. I thought he looked completely at the level when he played.
Clean, decisive and wasn’t fazed by the speed.
Easily looks likely to play this year and already jumped ahead of others IMO.

He will be in contention for the Coleman. But that’s more about how they play and their fwds.

I think they had probably 5-6 better than him today. But goals sells hope…..

If he gets frees like he did today during the H&A, similar to Curnow, he definitely will be in contention for the Coleman.

North will probably be an improved side on last year too, which will no doubt help him.

He's my pick of all the kpf in the AFL.
