It’s either one sided umpiring or bad discipline from our tacklers. Or maybe both.
Bit of both.
Absolutely horrendous umpiring.
Could easily show about 6 identical tings from either side that were paid differently.

But our tackles have slipped high and the umps are looking to pay them.
Its just not coming back the other way.
So in a way, we're allowing the umpiring to be poor.

nothing to worry about from a praccy match, but it seems to remind me that when we struggle its when our defence isnt working and teams slice through us. could be something to watch out for this year

on a another point, i think jakob ryan is a fine footballer, but i cant see his weapon that will make him afl standard. to me his ceiling looks like being an able and reliable back pocket to play on small forwards, but they may be too fast for him

Sit JDG / Nick & Josh down for the second half.
Bobby too.

Seen enough from them and nothing to gain except injuries.
Let the young guys battle it out from here and see how they go.

Steene rucked the entire qtr basically.
So expect him and cameron to rest => cox / begg

Bytel / Sullivan => Nick / JDG

Happy enough with what I've seen in a game that means nothing. Naicos levels above any player on the ground. Macrae looked like he belongs. Hill was sharp and on point. Mcinnes hit the scoreboard.

Not so good, nearly all of our defenders, but we're missing a couple of good ones. Frampton playing 30m off Larkey fmd

Yes it is match simulation but the same issues arise. We played well the 1st quarter with young Steene getting his hands first to the ball which brought our midfielders into the game. This quarter with Cameron in the ruck has been a shocker. He hasn't jumped and only tried to negate the Roos ruck. We lost every ball up and clearance. Their midfielders had control and our backs were out of position. Steene moved back into the ruck and lo and behold he got first touch and we won our first cc for the quarter. Promising signs from some of our younger ones

What are the odds that Nick will get moved to half back again after a couple of early loses. That’s his best position, he’s nothing special as a full time mid.
I still think he should spend a fair amount of time there. It would be best to rotate a lot of players through the middle this year.

Reef and AJ making for quite a dynamic duo i50. I know the current view is "it's one or the other" but they're agile and quick enough themselves to not be too top heavy. AJ's improved fitness and ability to push up the ground and get back i50 (as well as laying a few tackles today which is important) I think makes it a more viable option than i originally considered.
