Me too - and there's no way it could ever come back to haunt us
I'm expecting to see a "CLARKO'S NORTHBALL" shirt available at the North shop by the end of the week. Make it happen Jenn. :)

Still working through the comments before mine come. Good day out though, won one more game than the whole of last year in a single day = good result.

At first glance the big positives:

  • Xerri looked like a competitive AFL level ruckman. Big tick.
  • Powell had a very consistent 4 quarters once he got going.
  • Forward line looked very dynamic and dangerous.
  • Transition and dynamic play was night and day to most of last year and will open some teams up.
  • I thought the backline looked like there were at least the pieces there to be competitive. A lot of new faces is a tough way to play but they did okay although as expected for me it was our attack that made their jobs easier and the breakdown in this that highlighted their weaknesses.
  • It looked to me like Dawson has put on a serious bit of size which should hopefully help him pinch hit and maybe make a case for full time.
  • Biggie looked much more comfortable as a floating interceptor.
  • Pink found his feet.
  • Between the 3 of them hopefully we can find 1-2 to keep things ticking over.
  • Goater honestly looks about the same size as Dawson which is huge for a roving style player.
  • Phillips obviously came on late but I thought he showed his class again, he's very close IMO.
  • Laz looked good once he got going, can't quite shake the feeling he has a touch too many still at times but he looked better in and out of congestion. Will get a chance this year to show he can be a good supporting player I think - can he take it is the question...
  • Sheezel is still a wizard.

Overall I thought once we got some flow going we just looked a little more consistent with the chains of disposal. Instead of 2 out of 5 as in previous few years going well it was more like 3 out of 5 and it made a bit difference. In fact all the difference to the result.

No major injuries, 3 wins, good performances out of the younger players we need to do well to be more competitive this year. Oh one other thing, the addition of Fisher and Stephens made a noticeable difference as well. We have much more run over the ground in multiple positions and they will help provide cover for some talented younger players. Both looked to have neat disposal as well rather than just good defensive running.

Here is my early predictions….

With this run and gun style off half back we are going to put a fair few teams to the sword and score heavily, especially when we are winning the midfield battle.

On the other hand we are also going to get scored against heavily, we are just not going to be able to defend turnovers efficiently, this is compounded by the fact that we have a very inexperienced backline.

At a minimum if this game is anything to go by we are at least going to be playing a bloody exciting brand of footy.
Shades of 1993/2013?

George is ******* ridiculous.

If he gets it consistently 30 times a game he's a multiple brownlow winner.
I agree, I think today did highlight though that we should temper expectations a touch still for this year. I think he clearly - and obviously given his age - has a fair bit of work to do still on his running capability. It's even tougher because he has such explosive pace and power that it will take that bit longer before he can do it all day long. It will be worth it though. FWIW I still have him for the Rising Star although McKercher will rack it up by the looks of things.

For me the things I've loved have been Wardlaw and Colby. Doing the kind of stuff that makes you dream...

LDU and Simpkin have been a little disappointing I think.

Perfect match for Clarko - we're doing well enough to build confidence and belief but also there's so much to talk about and review. So many improvements to identify.

I don't reckon LDU or Simpkin have much to prove at this level. Run in the legs, decent workout and no injuries. LDU is absolutely ****ing primed IMO. He looks like a matchwinner with so much attacking support around him. They will not be able to sit on him in the same way, Wardlaw IMO is tough to sit on full stop due to the way he uses his body. Will win frees.

Seen enough. Booking flights for September

Hope you don't live in Kensington
