Scoreboard never matters in these hitouts, you just want to see areas of improvement.

Takeaways for me:
  • All the running this preseason looks like it will pay off, looked super fit.
  • Ball movement a big plus, there will be days where it doesn’t connect and we get opened up but I’ll be very happy to see the end of that slow boring down the line bullshit for a much easier on the eye attacking game plan.
  • Defence got it together one the midfield started to control the game a bit better. Kal Dawson is a lock for me.
  • Colby McKercher is a huge weapon off half back, teams will have to sit a bit deeper so they don’t get exposed over the back once he gets going.
  • Midfield looks so balanced now, Laz with a bit of extra pace rotating through is a nice addition. Thought Powell was brilliant again.

I think we could do with addressing forward pressure still. Opened up in the first quarter with how easy it was coming out of there. But overall a very positive showing.
Agree on the forward line. We still don't have a natural pressure type in there, Cam obviously hunts with intent and Curtis can be dangerous when his strength is available but there is an argument in the absence of a genuine pressure small for a defensive minded forward. Might be that Simpkin can play that role at times with more time free up forward. An interesting conundrum though as good teams will obviously still expose us if we let the ball out too easily too often.

1993 more so than 2013.

There is something about this group mate. I can’t recall a time I’ve been so excited by the potential and growth with one bunch of players.
Agree.

Whilst 2013-16 was a wild ride, it had a lot of the heavy lifting still on senior players that had been there forever. We didn't really develop many players from that era in fact only one remains on our list.

This team looks like it will have sustained success because the young players are all showing so much promise and getting stronger by the minute. This isn't just a flash in the pan short-term sorta thing we've seen before, we're aiming for long term stints at a flag(s) and I'm so excited to witness it.

Thanks for all the comments. Haven't seen any of the game today so the comments are appreciated. Will watch the game back but nice to read the positives. I'm not quite putting finals tickets on lay-by, but having a generally competitive team is what I want to see.

Love Georgie’s intensity, but he needs to be careful with his disposal and also avoid silly injuries. Sometimes playing that manic style can backfire, with rushed turnovers and taking unnecessary injury risks. We dont want another JZ where he just attacks so hard he gets hurt, or just slams the ball on his boot. Needs to play smarter than that.
Did JZ ever have a bullet pass phase? George has a penchant for 15-20m sizzlers out of the stoppage. I saw it in the VFL and at senior level last year. Don't think slamming it on the boot will be an issue.

Efficiency, maybe, but we haven't seen anywhere near enough to decide one way or the other in that regard

Not to mention we have an elite coach now, strong recruiting and list management.

Assuming Corr comes in for Biggie you'd have to wonder who L McDonald is knocking out of the defensive unit.

The obvious pick is Goater but i'd much prefer to give Goater an extended run as his athleticism is really exciting and gives our defence more options as he can play tall/small.

Sheez, Fisher, Colby are all locks.

My next four would be Dawson, Corr, Goater and Pink/Chom.

Luke will play against the Saints and that will sort it out. He’s Captain- he’s playing you have to think.

Still plenty to play out.
