Is Matthew Nicks the right coach for Adelaide's rebuild?

  • Firmly yes (I love what I'm seeing)

  • Leaning yes

  • Can't decide either way

  • Leaning no (but don't sack him yet)

Of course the senior coach has final say. The buck always stops with the head coach.

As for game plan, yes I thought Nicks was too obsessed with defense and given our recent acquisitions, I think the someone at the club must have agreed.
Always teach the team to learn to defend first and then teach them attack which in the last few years I've saw him started to introduce but some of you didn't lol. That's a sign of someone who can coach isn't it? Sure, he definitely need to get better at selection or have a bigger say during the committee if he isn't doing this right now which is why I said if he continue to do this next season when the pressure will be on us making Finals then he has got himself fired.

He was obsessed with defense and also not any good at it. We still aren't that great at it now but we've learned how to attack which papers over some of the cracks.

Yes obsessed. He thought a team success could only be built from defense. He also thought hard work could override talent.
Sound a lot like a good coach teaching the side in complete rebuild how to defend in the first 2 years and then teaching them to attack in the last few years (you saw this didn't you?) and this year is the result.

No it's a guy that was on training wheels with an assistant coaches mindset and lacking the holistic interpretation of the game required to succeed.

Cleary Nicks has proven he can coach (even the posters who continually said he couldn't a few years ago doesn't even bother posting this anymore) and this is also done with a disadvantage before the game even start due to his selection.
So you’re saying he did well last night?

I love that everything negative is the coaches fault and everything positive is in spite of the coaches.

Bruh, even George Kramer reluctantly admitted he saw this game plan from Nicks last year. What were you watching lol.
Umm no I didn’t, that was Wayne. I said his gameplan was stupid because he was defensive because he was trying to limit the size of the losses rather than going for the win. He taught our players nothing about defence because his tactic was slow ball movement and pushing up our small forwards around the contest to clog it up.

That’s not teaching your side how to defend, it’s not trusting them to defend its defending by chucking heaps of players around the ball and limiting turnovers. The issue is you move the ball so slow and when we moved it to our forward line we were outnumbered.

And he used our best mid in defence!! And was going to again this year before Dawson stepped in.

I'm sure it was you who mentioned it and said we just didn't play it consistently, hence your tone of Nicks can't coach and doesn't have a game plan this year. Do you still think Nicks doesn't have a game plan and can't coach now?

No it was Wayne.

I’m not critical of his game plan at all this year, he’s doing what I wanted, it’s moving the ball on quickly to our elite forward line. Glad he caught on.

My criticisms are based on the stupid mistakes around selection he continues to make, another example this week. Sub Pedlar and play Sloane who has sucked in every full game he’s played for months now.

We were discussing my criticism of Nicks game plan is his first few years at the club. Even Nicks himself has admitted his ideas as a coach have evolved. I'm less concerned about his tactics than I used to be. I'm more concerned with the lack of development in our midfield, and the awful selections. Those are the main reasons I don't rate him and don't believe he will succeed.

I didn't say you said it this year, I said you mentioned it last year when we were playing this game plan but it was inconsistent, you continually said Nicks can't coach as he didn't have a game plan but I told you otherwise. Hence your change of tone around this subject this year.

Rachele and Soligo transitioned into the midfield this year for the first 8 weeks in their 2nd season didn't they? He did tried Jones there for a few years as well. Also, Pedlar had minutes in there and played an entire half last night, would have liked Rankine to get more though.

No I did not. Why do I always feel dumber for engaging with you? Are you like this in real life or is it all for attention?
