If whatever happened to Hodges didn't happen could he have cut it in 97? I would think with Cummins drawing the best defenders, he would have been a lethal option as a secondary target medium forward in 90s footy.

I recall having a beer with Tregenza at the game day village one year. He was woth a bunch of other ex players.

What is this game day village you speak of?

Admittedly, I haven’t watched the whole thing for literally decades, but was the umpiring even questionable, let alone loaded?

I’ll admit my memory is coloured by Scotty’s GOATedness but also the absolutely absurd whining from many a Legs fan that the free wasn’t there — which in-turn reminds me of this more recent moment of mass-delusion:

Both incidents being obvious free kicks in just about any era.

Port probably got the rub of the green but for the last 15 minutes of the match Port got 3 free kicks - Hodges goal, a clear cut free to Fiacchi after Keating threw him to the ground off the play, and a free for on the full. The way Norwood people talk you'd think we received 2 free kicks per minute.

The cynic in me points to the 10 clear deliberates that didnt get paid in our favour in the last 10 minutes.

End of the day its pretty simple. For the last 21 minutes of the match Norwood didn't have an inside 50. They went forward of centre about twice. They kicked out to a 17 point lead then didn't bother building on that momentum, nor did they bother trying to keep the ball. They let Port back in, we got a sniff, started to really dictate the play and the ball was almost permanently in our forward 50-60m of the ground for the last 20 minutes of the match. They tried to park the bus. They couldn't. They choked. I masturbate to the tears of their supporters.

He probably would have been good for 20-30 goals. He'd really lost a significant amount of pace by that stage

From the 70s to the mid 80s Port, Sturt, Norwood and Glenelg were known as the big 4. I think it had to do not only with their success but they were generally the biggest crowd pullers.
Yes it was because of their on field success, but North had bigger crowds than Glenelg. A bit like Hawthorn had lots of success in the 70's and 80's but never cracked the big 4 crowd wise.

I think it was @70'sDinosaur who came up with the stat last year that between 1962 and 1990 Port or Glenelg were in every grand final bar 2 - 1978 and 1983.

Port 10-8
Glenelg 3-10
Port v Glenelg 4-0.

The cognitive dissonance of Camry Crows supporters who still are convinced that that is not a free against Rutten is amazing

For sure. I have mentioned before about a similar free being paid to Tippett in the first half. When you mention that to Crows supporters their response is, generally, along the lines of “but you don’t pay that free at that time of the game“.

I must be a sexist pig because im
Not sure what Degoey did wrong. The other video is a joke too.

It’s okay for women to talk shit of men, grope them sexually, a man can’t flirt or say a word. He’ll we aren’t even allowed to look at a woman if we think she’s attractive. Heaven forbid.

Im Not making light of true sexism
Or assault for the record.

In Bali or America?

If you're talking about Bali I agree.

I said in another thread, its a terrible look for him but if the girl in question is ok with it then I don't consider it 'assault'. Would be interesting to see how many followers she has gained, maybe why she is ok with it lmao.

Its more along the lines of bringing Collingwood in to disrepute and he is definitely dumb AF

Mass delusion

Mass self aggrandisement likely as well

Very possibly which is why their proposed merger had some logic.

The Sturtwood thing could have worked if the plan for SA was 3 teams in the AFL. Sturt and Norwood are very close Geographically, Culturally, Socially and Economically. If the plan was to have 3 teams Port, Sturtwood and the Rest (probably called Adelaide) comprised of the other 7 clubs could have been the model. Ironiocally I would think if they all came into the comp at the same time I think the Rest (Adelaide) would have had the biggest struggle. It would have pitted 7 disparate clubs together each trying to impose their shitty little will/Agendas on each other with no sense of commonality/location/culture.

Just on the Sturtwood thing. I reckon Port does pretty well against the Crows in a lot of metrics, but where we get smashed is the top end of town advantages, namely corporate and monied support. The Pirie Street Stock Brokers, the Carrington Street Law Firms, the Greenhill Road Accountancy/ Business Advisory Firms. This is the preserve of the Old School Tiers. The Sturtwood supporters. I sometimes live amongst these people and I've been to big functions/Luncheons/Dinners where if footy comes up, it is just assumed the room are Crows supporters. You are more likely to run into a Carlton supporter at these events than a Port supporter. This feeds into our inability to sell corporate stock at Adelaide Oval and also that mid level sponsorship.

Every year we get closer to my colours vs your colours.

I don’t see anything wrong with that. Rivalries bring rivals together, indeed.

Clubs still have personalities, though.

This might be changing. Aren’t the last two state PM and the previous state governor all Port fans?

None of them are Old School Tiers. Look Im not saying successful people aren't Port supporters, it's just that segemt of society, and it definatey exists in Adelaide (like it does elsewhere), that Eastern suburbs, generational monied, Private schooled professional class is a component of support that Port traditionally doesn't have. It may be changing slightly, but for people that grew up with strong SANFL affiliation, basically Gen X and above, it very much is a factor.

Can’t believe the SMA (SANFL) ruined one of the best matchday pull-factors! It’s almost as if they have no business running the sport, or something!

Agree with everything you've written, it pretty much mirrors my experience over the past two decades, but in regards to the above, I've noticed that things starting to change.

It was the first time in a very long time that going to the football felt like going to the football and not some convoluted saga of lining up at gates to get to a cramped seat and try to beat the rush at each break to get a shit beer in a plastic cup.

It felt like being at a club function, and everyone was welcome.

It's demise showed everything that's wrong with AFL; f*ck the punters, let's gob off the corporate juggernauts instead.

Painting us all as p¡ss-addled orcs in their successful casus belli was the icing on the cake.

The other issue for mine is the consent.

It's such a tricky one.

On one hand we know that some women will defend their abusers and minimise the impact for a variety of societal and social reasons.

On the other it is almost **** shaming to say that the girl in question doesn't have the right to choose what she is OK with.
