:tearsofjoy: Bwahaha so petty

Which part of Kings Park is that?

Here is a cut and crop picture from the West Torrens Council page on the proposal. Looks like some of the grass will remain outside the leased area. I read the lease draft commercial lease document and draft lease covenant document and the FAQ document last night.

And the thing is that piece of land is used for community events and fairs on a regular basis. But is it heavily utilised at 2pm on a school day? No way. You could say that about any park or non school oval btw.

From what I understand the issue for the residents is about access to ensure that those events can continue under the crows lease. Seems a reasonable question to ask imho. I don't get why the Council/Crows don't just say - yes it will under certain conditions - but I reckon they just don't know as the Crows plans for Thebarton are far from finalised. Much will depend on what happens to the adjacent expressway

BTW. Comparing that large piece of green space to the small under-utilised former croquet park at Alberton is just dumb.

In any case, the point is moot. 2 days ago West Torrens Council rejected further community consultation on the proposal and a final decision for the 42 year lease (with right to a further 42 year extension) will be formally considered by the Council in May 2023.

My understanding is that area to the east of the dotted line (on the right side of your picture) - which includes some of Kings Park that includes some grass space, and the recently completed bowling club and community centre that is adjacent to South Road is to be demolished to make way for the Torrens to Darlington expressway in any case.

The Crow development will take over ALL of what remains of Kings Park in that picture and the area to the south that includes Thebby Oval:

As Schulzy and others have said says - this all makes sense and has the capacity to provide greatly improved and more aesthetic recreational facilities not just for the Crows/SANFL but for the surrounding community. It could be a win/win for everyone. As it should be given how much State/Federal taxpayers money is going into it.

That the West Torrens Council has been unable/unwilling to sit down and do all it can to publicise, explain and sell this project to THEIR residents and THEIR ratepayers (e.g. how about setting up a community reference group?) and has now shut down discussion entirely until May next year says all you need to know about how bloody incompetent and arrogant they are imho.

It is not up to the Crows to do this.

And it of course enables idiots like Rowe and the Channel 7/FiveAA Ambassadors to pitch it as a juvenile Crows v Port supporting NIMBYs discussion for the clicks - totally missing the point.

Just dumb. And so Adelaide.

My own fault for flicking the news on but Crows encourage other clubs to look at Jimmy Rowe lol this town honestly.

By other clubs they mean Nord and Woodville right?

Even if there is a tunnel?

Placating an ambassador with a large megaphone.

Most likely. They will need to bulldoze buildings on both sides of the existing South Road to create bypasses while the twin tunnels (of whatever length they finally agree on) are constructed from 2026 onwards (don't hold me to that date ;))

Pretty bizarre considering the Bowling club and Community Centre were only completed in 2019. But by the time anything happens with the roadworks they might be at end of life anyway.

As much as I enjoy the Crows being wrong, they're not here. Let's not jump onto the side of the equivalent of the Alberton doggers just because we want the Crows to be wrong.
I think it’s more that 5aa gave plenty of sympathy and air time to the alberton oval whingers and their loss of pristine park space

although it would be kinda funny watching his old man implode at the thought of seeing his son play for a club he hates just his old mate Graham Cornes had to do for all those years

No it wouldn't. Stephen Rowe would love nothing more than for Port to take a punt on his son so he can continue playing football at the top level while living in his home town. I would gain no satisfaction out of this scenario. Let him move to North Melbourne or something.

FTFY move out of home Jimmy lol

I got nothing against Jimmy personally aside from the fact I think his lack of pace & ability to kick over 30 metres is the death knell of his AFL career
