Apparently optimising player performance is nothing to do with the coach....

The coach cant bend down and win the contested possesions and the clearances for the midfielders, no. Skills and ability of the midfield has lost it tonight, not game plan.

I cant imagine a game plan being able to win a game of football getting a midfield belting as big as this has been.

There's some idiot on The Bay mass tagging Geelong posters into comments but apparently nothing can be done as it's "the bay" - even though they're tagging posters not involved in those threads or who venture to the bay
Sling me their name plz

There has to be fallout from this ...

We don't have finals players like the good old days.

And whilst we keep staying up and keep getting almost there ... it shows just how hungry and powerful those in their mid 20's have over grizzled and gnarled veterans.

We needed a window in between the likes of the Tigers and then Melbourne/Port Adelaide ... but it wasn't there.

Time to clean out a few and do a small restock of those younger ones that could be driven and can stand up to the pressure of finals.

If that means a couple of years outside the 8 then so be it.

Menegola, Blicavs, Henderson, Rohan ... can't play finals.

Selwood, Danger don't have the young guys around them that are willing to be big game players. Selwood and Danger are not the game winners any more though either.

Miers just does my head in.

A small reset next year. SDK/Krueger in. Find a FA/RFA mid that has power and speed x 2.

Find speed with poise to compliment Stewart as a small in the back half.

Possibilities abound but Geelong needs to hit the list hard and prepare again. We've seen Port do similar and come back hard. If we are great then it's time to show it by being courageous enough to cull those that can't do an effing thing in September.

Well said. Need to face the fact that we are done with this group. Keep a few older guys for the transition but cull the rest over the next 2 years.

Golly gosh this thread is a time capsule for overreactions.
Scarcely finding something that isn't over the top.
What nonsense. What club sacks its coach for making PF's.
We have been sh*t tonight, no denying it but Scott's position is as safe as houses.

People need some damn perspective. We are failing at a hurdle 15 clubs are envious of merely making it to.

Happens all the time in the States.
If the owners don't think you can take the team the final step, gone.
But over there you'll get another chance, getting fired isn't the career death sentence it can be in the AFL.

And I CGAF is 15 teams are envious of us making (and getting thumped in) a prelim.
I want 17 teams to be envious of our ability to win flags way more often than we should.

Welcome, many of us have been waiting for this, finally we might actually see the decision makers wake up to the need for a new coach, new blood, and a new strategy, so that the club can finally play to win, and not just to make finals for selling memberships and sponsorships.
I hope so. A massive disgrace like this can't be excused. I don't care if we are 18th for a few years. I want a new coach and a new plan.
