Coach Men's Senior Coach: Brad Scott

Last year, Ibiza. This year, training early.

Might not be much, but it's a sign that our culture is shifting. And Scotty is no doubt a catalyst for it.
Actions speaks louder than words. It’s refreshing to see. I like the blend of the group going over there too. About 3 A graders in Langford, Ridley and I think I heard Merritt? The rest of that group though if they can get 5 to 10% better out of it I think it will be a massive boon for the team. I’d imagine it would strengthen team bonds as well.

Gresham talking of a stressful couple of months but also pumping up Scott's tyres, "spoke to Brad, loved his messaging".

Pretty sure Gresh actually said massaging.

I for one am glad we've got a hands on coach.

One thing that comes through consistently is how Scott is a good communicator and commands respect. IMO, that is what all good coaches are regardless of game plan.

Something it seems Rutten struggled with.

This coming season is really the first time we can judge Scott IMO. First full run at it as he came in so late last season.

The off field stuff seems more stable than it has since Sheeds heyday, from afar anyway. Can't be more impressed with Scott myself.
In almost every second interview, Dodoro referenced how easy his job was to convince players to join because of how well Scott communicates and carries himself. Definitely an attribute.

Both of them are childhood bombers who want to play on Anzac Day and in front of big crowds and whatever, that sounds like the same line we've heard forever either from Dodoro or the media team feeding them lines I guess.

I imagine unless you're already at a Collingwood, Carlton or Richmond the appeal of regularly playing in front of > 80k crowds at the MCG would be pretty appealing.

Anzac Day is basically a guaranteed 90k crowd, which unless you're playing in a prelim or GF, is about the biggest crowd any player would get to be in front of. Especially coming from a smaller club where even getting 90k to a prelim isn't a guarantee.

If EFC actually manages to get it's shit together on-field and play consistently well, we've got as much drawing power for players and crowds as any club in the league. Marvel is sadly limiting on the attendance figures front.

Rutten always came off as way too friendly for a Senior Coach. Any playing group has to have a leader helm who they'll follow, not a mate & I feel Ben was always considered a good coach by many in the industry but moreso when he was responsible as an assistant at both Richmond and Essendon.

Very hard to make tough calls when you are too matey as well.

Works fine as an assistant though.

Do we know it's genuinely a draw for all players?

I'd have to imagine some really couldn't care less whether they're playing in front of 15k or 90k for a number of reasons.

I suspect most players would prefer to be out in front of bigger crowds, perhaps not every single one but I imagine it would be uncommon.

Agree - wanted too matey with the playing group, and came at the cost of driving higher standards and hierarchical respect.

I can tell you the strange part of that . Early on with us he was considered a bit too much of a hard ass at trying to drive player standards so they gave him a decent amount of "people management " training outside the club with the view of molding him into a senior coach.

The ill-fated empathy course.

Ironic, isn't it.
Coached us during that awkward phase when we were transitioning from prioritising player welfare and happiness under Worsfold to re-focusing towards a results-driven environment.

A nice example of Bomber's comment earlier this year that good people come to the club and seem to get changed by it, when this should be the other way around.

What's he saying. Channel your inner Lore
I tuned in a half way through so I missed a bit and for some reason I can't rewind until it's over apparently.
I'm not entirely sure how much i missed but the general gist was.

We didn't want to give up any draft picks during trade week unless a player of Jeremy Cameron's caliber emerged.

He doesn't want to jinx it but Cox, Jones and Reid are training well and it's like having 3 brand new draftees at our disposal.

Stringer and Draper won't join training until after Christmas.

He's trying to drill into the boys that they need to not only train like professional athletes, but live like professional athletes.
