Too big and slow in the forward line - as soon as the ball hits the ground the opposition are off to the races. Then having 2 key position players as wingmen does not help slow the oppositions transition.

While other clubs start their attack from the back half, We would have close to the least skilled backline players in the league, Mckay, laverde, McGrath, Kelly & Heppell are absolute butchers of the ball.

So we drop Wright & Heppell because of form, But bring them straight back into the team without playing a game in the 2's

And this is why I can't really agree with posts that say it's all about working on system and setting foundation for the future. The system they've got going up forward is not going to take us anywhere.

Given that Scott is leaving some young players to develop outside of the senior team (be it through the VFL or through training without playing AFL), he presumably sees this as more beneficial for them as players.

So on that note, do you think it's fair to expect someone like Hayes to be good to go next year in the same way one of his peers with 2 full seasons of AFL games would be?

I'm not sure if that makes sense. I guess my question is, at what stage would you say you can label Scott's approach to developing young players a failure?
ant555. What are your thoughts on this?

Would it kill Scott to make Redman man up for once. His unaccountability is absolutely disgusting and if you don’t believe me, go sit level 2 and watch him.

Where Setters and Hobbs? Stringer had more than DOUBLE cba’s than Caldwell.

And my biggest gripe. Why is an out of form, rock bottom confidence player in Perkins being the sub.

Also to who ever mentioned Stanton. I get gut pains when ever I seen him on the bench… Lol that’s Essendon mediocrity right there.. sorry Brent

Not sure how you can lay blame on Brad Scott given this has happened under coach after coach after coach for the past 15 years. The culture is broken and no form of success will come unless and until it's fixed. Scott is clearly 'trying' to reset the pitiful culture that has been left to fester for a decade and a half - he's had (almost) two seasons and one off season.

He needs time (and the full support of the club which it seems like he has). If he fails he fails, but if he does I don't know who we think could succeed.

Brad has made conscious personnel decisions throughout the year that have progressively torn down the first 6-8 weeks work, you can talk about culture all you want but we were going better than ok and then from there it’s basically been bad decision after bad decision.

Moving contested ball midfielders and ADJ off the half forward line has made us completely inept when the ball hits the deck so even though Caldwell in particular has gone boonta that has to be a cross.

Adding an extra tall into the mix after the Wright suspension hasn’t worked at all except for maybe a week and he’s persisted with it, that’s a cross.

Stringer and Gresham up into the middle of the ground is a cross, has hurt the front half too much and neutered their output.

He hasn’t got the use case for Martin correct and got handed Ridley on a silver platter mid season and hasn’t got the best out of him either.

Perkins as the defensive pivot in midfield was surely drawn up with the intention of it failing so I guess in that regard you can call it a success.

Selection of subs and emergencies has been shit and limited the kids getting sorely needed gametime.

Has brought in multiple players half cooked or on managed minutes that have looked and played like it.

2 200cm wingers is ridiculous, despite their individual growth as players.

I could go on, can talk culture until the cows come home but he picks the side, he moves the magnets and he’s been utter shit since April.

With the season done, Scott and his team have a big challenge on their hands this pre-season with a huge number of players in a concerning spot. We've heard from the club that they've invested in development... So what happens with these guys...

Draper: He'll be 26yo. At times this year Goldstein has been preferred to him as #1 ruck. Where is he at? Is he going to improve?

Tsatas: High draft pick, two years in now, playing VFL. Where is he at?

Hobbs: High draft pick, three years in, hasn't secured a spot in the team

Setterfield: 27yo now. Can't hold a spot. Is he just depth?

Cox: Has been discussed at length. High draft pick, four years in and we seemingly don't know what he is. Competitiveness remains a concern.

Perkins: High draft pick, four years in and hasn't secured a spot - frequently playing as sub.

Wright: Has regressed hugely and been dropped. Gone from one of the comp's best key forwards a couple of years back to this. What gives?

Jones: 24yo and five years in. Some saw the wing thing as a positive... Personally I wasn't that keen. Does this mean he isn't a key forward, which he was drafted as and has spent five years developing?

Bryan: Five years in and has really looked nowhere near it in very limited opportunities. If he's part of the future then he plays ahead of Goldstein. Is he just not capable?

Stringer: Will be 31 and is still inconsistent. He is what he is. Could he get us something at the trade table? Or do we just stick with him?

Redman: Why has he regressed so much?

It's a heap of players to have been around a while and still have major question marks. Many seem to be just marking time as the years fall off the calendar. Coaches have plenty of work to do.

Hayes with another pre season should be physically ready . The question would be the transition to AFL level. Could be a year where he may play 10 or so games if he is not quite ready.
Where we are at now and Ridley injured again he really should sneak a couple into him in the next few weeks.

For me, Redman is showing the signs of someone who the coach has 'lost'.

were we, though?

I mean, I would have taken winning all the winnable ones and only one real duck egg performance at the start of the year.

It was a good platform to build upon, fully acknowledging that there was still a lot of things that needed tightening up. Instead he’s elected to make moves that have essentially torn it all down.

Well if you recruit skinny kids who lack endurance or physicality then you are going to struggle to debut anyone. Hayes , Voss and Roberts really the only one in Scotts time that you could argue should have played at least a couple of games. Lual and Visentini are certainly not near ready and J Davey came in off an ACL . There has only been 10 young bolkes from memory in the last two draft periods. A Davey / Tsatas / Caddy have played. Hayes and Roberts should have . J Davey / and Hunter have had injuries and Lual and Visentini from last year have not been ready.

If you look at Geelong they still have 8 players on the list that have not played a game. Three of their debuntants are 21 24 and 26 respectively . They have had 4 players at 18/19 debut.

You really have to go through every list to break down the numbers.

I would say our numbers should have been 5 and by the end of the year it really should be 6 . Hayes . Roberts. J Davey.

If we're at the same position next year as we are now will everyone here that's currently supporting Brad call for his head and want him gone? Or are you guys committed to the 8 year plan or w/e it is
