something i really like about this guy is that even when he does something i don’t agree with he can at least make me understand why he’s done it. it’s nice to have an articulate coach.

Agree that it currently is not a major issue. Just hope it doesn’t become oneI certainly heard the same criticisms from North supporters and agree with this in theory, but in practice we really do have no player in the VFL showing they are capable of doing any better than Weideman is, so I think it's a moot point. If we ever do have someone knocking down the door at VFL level and Scott is still consistently backing Wied to plod along in the AFL then it'll be a discussion worth having
They did not go to Voss as he plays more a medium forward style so that changes the set up of the side . Voss is actually behind Langford an Stringer. You would be changing the structure and game style to play 3 medium forwards.I guess it will depend on whether there's been any growth in his ability to communicate since his first go around with North.
FWIW I think they missed a trick not going to Voss coming off his 5 and 4 in consecutive weeks because Weideman was going ok but hadn't really found his place in the forward line, was a little bit clunky and getting in the way.
Now it's the opposite, Voss has been quiet and so has Weideman but at least he's been doing a better role at getting on his bike and drawing a man away from dangerous areas.

It will be telling what they do when Draper is fit and if they use one of the rucks as a forward.
Agreed. I watched the replay of last week and he even celebrates to hurt! Some of his high fives to team mates could have broken wristsI suspect Voss could do that with some added judo tosses and maybe a headlock thrown in as well.
He is not going to ask Voss to play a different role . He has been very clear on that . I have also said that if the two rucks play then it is different now that Wright is back .Agree to disagree I think, I'll cede the point that Weid is probably a necessary evil if we need him to ruck but if he's in the side along with two rucks the function and role is basically get on your bike, present up at the kicker and make space behind you. Weid is struggling in the air so you probably don't lose all that much.

Remembering that Brad Scott had access to all of Champion Data's stuff when he worked for the AFL last year...
Looks like someone, somewhere got access to some of Champion Data's more advanced stats and put their analysis of the entire data set in the public domain. Pity the data is 18 months out of date, but I guess beggars can't be choosers.
How good would it be?? And we could have commentators that actually know what they're talking about... wonder of wondersI wish this type of thing was publicly available.
Just imagine the type of insight that could be shared and learned by the footballing public instead of being kept in the dark and fed s**t from the media.

Figuring footy was a fair loss when the bloke running it was poached by a club; https://www.figuringfooty.com/2017/10/24/announcement-ive-signed-with-a-club/My real interest would be in the online communities that develop with this type of thing.
Passionate people who try and educate and share and use the data. even if it's just for gambling purposes, it's all good for the health of the game in the greater public discourse.
Not as much commentators who don't care, or actually understand what the are saying and just regurgitate what is fed into their earpiece.
Edit- even the NFL release the all 22 version which is sideline cam, no commentary and fans and content creators chart snaps to produce insight and content.
Behind the goals vision would at least be a start.
you do realise that the meathead football media are the ones that are beating up the nerds that produce and understand this data?I wish this type of thing was publicly available.

that last still with the two phones is so us for the last 20 years....not so much this year funnily enoughat least neither phone is upside down
The funny thing about kingy is he has no idea he’s even contradicting himself. He keeps going on about our gsme style from the back half and how many entry’s into our d50 we cop. We want to opposition to take the ball up the field so we can expose them the other way, using our weapons. We’re the the number team from taking the ball from d50 to attacking 50 in the comp, he says this style won’t stand up in finals and you need a forward half turnover game. But, at the same time he’s a huge fan of collingwood, well funny that they’re #12 in the comp for front half turn over scores, pretty average but #1 in the comp from scores from the d50. I think that might be why we actually match up so well against collingwood, they play such a similar style to us where both teams love to take the ball from 1 end to the other. It’s just about who converts their opportunities when they have momentum.David King dislikes this
Easy now. We are still a couple of years away, we still have holes in the 22 and some players need a few more years, plus we don’t know who we are going to lose yet. Redman leaving could significantly hurt us in the short term. If we can get big injury free pre seasons out of Cox, Reid and Jones it’ll go a long way to seeing that we improve next year. But rising higher is not always a guarantee. With the way we are tracking I think Scott can have us legitimately contending for a premiership next year. This year I think will be beyond us, but from next year onwards, watch out.

Let’s see how we finish the year first. We are going to have to win some tough 50/50 games to hold onto a place in the 8. We moreorless have to win 4 games to keep a spot, so assuming we don’t stumble against eagles or north. That’s 2 of geelong/Time will tell, but often the rise to a contender can be swift once you make that leap to 5th or 6th. The jump can often be quick as those players with 40 games soom become 60-70 game players, and almost overight make that leap from "developing player" to regular senior player. A number of players have already made that leap this season alone, and I think more will make that leap next year.
We are not far away.
It's a sport of thin margins, so a mere 5% rise in productivity can be worth 3-5 wins. The difference between the top teams and the bottom half of the 8 seems a lot, but it's not as much as people think.
