Re: How would YOUR Club handle the Didak/Shaw situation?

I'm not saying it's right or anything. Just being realistic. Collingwood's season is on the line. If they drop their 2 best players and lose, their supporters may turn feral. (more so)

I love both these players, so it kills me saying this.

Suspend both players until the end of the season. Throw both of them up at trade time. Didak for Kerr. Shaw and first round pick for J. Brown. Either for O'keefe. (for example)

If the club can pull off a couple of good trades as a result, then so be it. If it can't, then it will be a massive reality check for both players.

Why lie? This is the real issue, not the Drink Driving!

Re: How would YOUR Club handle the Didak/Shaw situation?

We'd get an injunction
hahaha, classic :thumbsu:

I hate to bring up my own club here, but we've suspended players for missing training sessions, I'd hate to see what we'd do for an incident like this. Lovett and Hislop have both been suspended this season (Lovett twice, would be on his last chance I think) so I think our club would have been a little harsher than Collingwood in this situation.

As for other clubs, how did Hawthorn handle the Campbell Brown Petrol station incident a few years ago? I think they suspended him I can't remember. And didn't Roughead get suspended for losing his license? I reckon the Hawks would have suspended players in this situation.

(I feel dirty for defending Hawthorn now:D)

Re: IF Collingwood and Eddie were serious they would.........

Tony Shaw says they should suspend Heath and sack Didak. So they won't do it now. Only thing that would make Eddie and Mick feel worse than yesterday would be looking like they were taking Uncle Tony's advice.

Re: Malthouses role in off-field shenanigans

Is it time someone examined the Malthouse legacy at the two clubs he has spent the last 19 seasons at?

He left West Coast in a state with players behaving like heavy metal drummers on weekends.

Now Collingwood players seem to value the party and play hard lifestyle too much.

Is he a cancer?

Rubbish................ more like lead guitarists :D

Re: IF Collingwood and Eddie were serious they would.........

sack didak and show him the door, and suspend heath shaw till next year.

This,

What they do next will determine where their priorities lie. Do they keep them playing because they need to make the finals (missing will seriously hurt Malthouse's coaching position)

Or do they dish out a punishment befitting of the crime regardless of on field consequences ?

Re: IF Collingwood and Eddie were serious they would.........

you make a good point. I'm sure they will explain it in a way that doesn't look hypocritical but going by their logic they should be made to play reserves and league this week ;)

Yep, perhaps they can just roll out this:

"The easiest thing in the world for our club [to do] is to send them down to play in the VFL reserves and they get off the hook," he said.

"What we want them to do now is start their rehabilitation.

"People can say it is just being selfish because we are playing, we are about to play in a finals game, and it's a big game against St Kilda.

"Well, our supporters deserve these professional people to do their job properly."

Re: IF Collingwood and Eddie were serious they would.........

Didak has had enough chances...****, if anyone should know better its him! Shaw should sit the rest of the H&A rounds on the bench.

Re: IF Collingwood and Eddie were serious they would.........

In amongst the hysteria about these clowns being out on the turps and breaking road rules, we overlook the fact that they could have been injured or killed, which would tend hurt the team just a little bit I imagine.

Nevertheless, I'm a little bothered by the fact that we are all anticipating Collingwood will suspend one or both, not because they were drunk or that they endangered lives, but because they told a porky pie. Surely if the drink driving didn't rate a suspension, that making them play was a harsher penalty, then Collingwood has stick by that policy.

This is about the most intelligent commentary I have read on this subject.

Really if they go hard on these boys now you will have to say that the bigger crime in their eyes has been hurting Eddie's ego!

Re: IF Collingwood and Eddie were serious they would.........

Players should drink if that's how they let their hair down. They shuold be a bit smarter about where and when but I don't subscribe to treating adults like kids.

Unfortunately at Collingwood they have been treating guys who are obviously kids as adults. (not to say my club doesn't have dirty laundry in this regard either).

Eddie, I hope he stays for another 10 years

As an opposition fan, with a sincere hatred for the magpies, I hope Eddie stays in charge for another 10 years.

He is providing great entertainment and no onfield results.

Who said that a journo and front man on TV, could succesfully run a football club anyway? Eddie could be the magpies worst enemy.

From my reading he doesnt have the strength in his convictions to make decisive decisions, he lacks sincerity, and comes accross almost comedic in his bluster.

Re: IF Collingwood and Eddie were serious they would.........

In a team sport, lying to your team-mates, captain & coach is a worse 'offence' than getting drunk or drink driving.

I'm sure it will be seen as such too.
Agree. What Shaw and Didak have done now goes to how a group of players play together on a weekend. Before it was an off filed issue but now it is a playing issue. For that reason a suspension is in order. I have always said we are here to win football games not conduct social engineering exercises. It has become a football match winning issue now due to the dynamics of a team.

Re: Eddie, I hope he stays for another 10 years

Agreed.

For the sake of the rest of the competition I think it's only fair that Eddie stays on.

If he was fuming yesterday, something tells me today's press conference is going to be priceless.

Rubbish. They have been treating footballers as footballers. There is nothing wrong with weekend drinking IMO and in fact I’d encourage it. Driving is another issue and we have laws to deal with that. The aftermath around their story is another matter again and I'd agree they have shown a lack of adult maturity and decision making in this instance. The issue isn’t drinking though it is what follows through choices.

Re: Eddie, I hope he stays for another 10 years

Was he annoyed at Chad Morrison?
Incensed at Wellingham?
Irate at Cameron Cloke?
Dead set livid at Tarrant, B Johnson, Dane Swan, Brodie Holland?
Infuriated with Didak?

Now he's furious?

One of the following is true:

1. The players don't listen to him
2. The players don't respect him
3. The players don't fear him

He must accept some blame. Great President in so many ways, but his leadership has to be questioned.

Re: Eddie, I hope he stays for another 10 years

Eddie Eddie Eddie, what can i say?

He said that the person with Heath Shaw at the time is a gutless person and not worthy of being anyones mate.

Buckley was right when he said that no other president in the league would have come out and blasted the whole situation. He should have kept his motuth shut, and found out the full facts of the story.

Collingwood is also the only club that doesn't let there leadership group have any decisions about the players, it is all run by eddie and mick.

What a shame you feel that way. So you don't agree with my thread?

Coming into the finals, needing to win, I think I'd be pretty unhappy if players in my team hit the turps on a Sunday night, especially after a heavy loss on the weekend. Surely you'd have to think that any training done by them on Monday would be subpar at best.

Re: Eddie, I hope he stays for another 10 years

What you, or anyone outside the club and major sponsors thinks of our President is so irrelevant, it barely rates a response.

Thanks for trying though - the Pies aren't down very often, I can understand what drives you to want a lay a boot in when you can

Yeah, I really have to rack my brians to remember the last time a Collingwood player was a social disgrace....

Wake up!!!!!!!!!!!

then why respond?

And 1 premiership in 50 years is not that much to brag about either
