List Mgmt. Mid-Season Draft - Who do we take?

Personally there's no way I'd be looking at Hugo Munn unless it's with a long term view because there is not a snowflake's chance in Hades that he's up to playing AFL at a decent level any time this season. Apart from his size I'm not sure he has the weapons that go along with his size anyway.

Anyway it seems the current SANFL player that's creating the most interest is former Box Hill Ruck Michael Knoll [205cm 105kg] a recent convert to footy after pursuing a basketball career who was recruited by the Panthers to replace Keegan Brooksby who they lost to the West Coast and Victorian TAC Ruck Hayden McLean who they recruited to replace Brooksby only for the Swans to snaffle him before he'd even suited up for the Panthers. Ask the Panthers what they think of the mid season draft if they now lose their N0.1 Ruck to the AFL, they should be rightly pissed right off.

Bicks - think you may be reading this wrong?
Mid-season draft takes place on May 27th.
If Crows picked up Munn from Sturt, then for SANFL RD 11, (June 29th) the SANFL Crows would not be allowed to field Munn against Sturt, unless Sturt agreed to let him play.
If the AFL Crows were out of finals contention after the 24th of August and the AFL season was done, but Sturt had made the SANFL finals, then Munn would be able to go back and play for Sturt for the SANFL finals series if Sturt wanted him back, even if the SANFL Crows also made the finals against Sturt.
Interesting, have you got an official link to this ruling?

Are players drafted mid-season added to the senior list or rookie list? Is it a temporary inclusion or do they need to be redrafted at the end of the year again?
My understanding is that they are rookie listed and the contract expires at the end of the season. Once listed though they are just like any other contracted player. You can delist at the end of the year, or can give them a contract extension to keep them at the club.

Rookie list.

What's in it for the players?

Players selected in the Mid-Season Rookie Draft will be able to negotiate terms of a new contract beyond 2019, just like any other listed player.

Meantime, it is also believed that any player selected in the Mid-Season Rookie Draft that is not retained by their club, or selected by any other club at the end of 2019, will receive a financial sum of around $20,000.

This is f***ed. Consider if Sturt had Munn and Read drafted which is a possibility that would be season over, throw in Sam Colquhoun who racked up 40 disposals last week and you may as well shut the doors for the year.
What a c*** of an idea to impose on the State League stand alone clubs that gain no benefit whatsoever and against their will.
**** you AFL. Go **** a goat
No one is forcing the players to nominate.

true..but there should not even be an option to nominate as there never ever should be a mid season draft..ever
I personally think a mid season trade period among AFL clubs would be better.

Dont think any State listed players will come into an AFL club in May and make a real impact. The fitness gap is quite big.

Got to remember over age recruits such as Tim Kelly got to do a full AFL preseason to condition their bodies before playing an AFL game.

These guys wont have that.

I agree an AFL only mid season trade period seems much much more sensible but for the love of god - don't pillage the state leagues for players who really won't have any immediate impact and as such offer no benefit during the actual season they are drafted

I know, damaged goods and all, but would we consider taking Sam Colquhoun? He's a good age now (24) and seemingly completely over his knee issues. Racks up plenty of the ball and has AFL experience. Leading the SANFL in marks and second for disposals so far this year.

I know we're all thinking a tall player with the loss of Doedee, but I'm more thinking that our fringe players are all mostly mid-sized players (Knight, Gallucci, Murphy, Atkins, Jones, etc) and there's an opportunity there. If we select a tall, unless they're going to step in and replace Kelly or Hartigan, there's not much point.

And

Who can clubs recruit?

Clubs will be able to draft any footballers who have already been on an AFL list, or who nominated for the 2018 NAB AFL Draft.

Any player delisted at the end of 2018 cannot be re-selected by the club that delisted them, unless they nominated for last year's NAB AFL Draft.

I think the whole idea of the mid season draft is crap.

I guess the guys nominating have kept their conditioning up.

Still looking at the names not many that are "plug n play"....

Imagine the opportunity of a mid season AFL call up.

Oh the humanity!

What can you tell me about this lad, I see he's made the SA U18 Squad as an over ager for the Nationals and is certainly a nice size for a KPP.

I understand he was a highly rated Decathlete as a junior before turning to footy.
Nothing Bicks, I follow our Reserves loosely, normally at a pub while they’re playing, to be honest it was the first time I came across his name.

I’ve said this all along

If Brown’s injury was long term he’d be a turn key go, he’s been great this year and very good to solid last year.
