Wow some of those are extremely speculative. Hope the application fee wasn't too steep. Jimmy Toumpas? Marlon Motlop?

This is f***ed. Consider if Sturt had Munn and Read drafted which is a possibility that would be season over, throw in Sam Colquhoun who racked up 40 disposals last week and you may as well shut the doors for the year.
What a c*** of an idea to impose on the State League stand alone clubs that gain no benefit whatsoever and against their will.
**** you AFL. Go **** a goat

My objection is more that the mid season draft gives an unfair advantage to (AFL) teams that cop injuries in the first half of the season vs those who cop them later. Any team that loses a player up to the week of the draft has the opportunity to draft a replacement. Lose a player the week after the draft, and you just have to go a man short for the rest of the year. There are plenty of opportunities to assemble your list during the off season. Once the season starts, you should have to go with the list you've got.

Maybe they should just have a list of younger players (Under 23) or something like that outside the main list that clubs can develop and call on if injury strikes?

They could call it a Rookie list, it’s crazy enough it might just work.

What am I saying? The AFL would just twist it so far away from its original concept that they’d need to come up with something else half baked.

Given our conservative selection policy why would we do this as they’d have no chance of playing in the firsts
It's basically a free swing to see how a mature aged player can develop in an AFL environment. We'd be mad not to at least have a look at someone if they're even a 10% of reaching depth standard.

I think it would be good to have a look at Hugo Munn.

Bring him in, get a sense of what he has, and keep him or not at the end of the year based on what he shows.

What's the point, unless he plays AFL he has to play for Sturt doen't he?

Hardly setting the World on fire for Sturt either, 5 Disposal, 4 kicks, 1 handball, 3 marks, 2 Hit Outs against the roosters

Why would a draftee keep playing for their previous team??

Whoever we draft would immediately come into our system, surely.

That's not my understanding of how it works, the players club in this case Sturt would have to agree.

How will state league clubs be compensated for losing a player?
It's understood AFL clubs will be made to provide them with a reimbursement. That could include a payment of up to 50 percent of any sign-on bonus given to the player by their state league club.
The League has also moved to offset state league clubs' concerns by introducing a number of conditions.
A player drafted from a state league will not be asked to play against their original club unless all parties agreed. For example, should Williamstown defender Sam McLarty be selected by Carlton, he will not be allowed to represent the Blues' VFL-affiliated Northern Blues against Williamstown, unless the Seagulls approve.
State league players also have the ability to return to their original club to participate in finals if their AFL club's season is over.

Bicks - think you may be reading this wrong?
Mid-season draft takes place on May 27th.
If Crows picked up Munn from Sturt, then for SANFL RD 11, (June 29th) the SANFL Crows would not be allowed to field Munn against Sturt, unless Sturt agreed to let him play.
If the AFL Crows were out of finals contention after the 24th of August and the AFL season was done, but Sturt had made the SANFL finals, then Munn would be able to go back and play for Sturt for the SANFL finals series if Sturt wanted him back, even if the SANFL Crows also made the finals against Sturt.
