This trade doesn't make sense. Any team has to pay massive overs for brown given he is very important to our team going forward and is contracted.
Yes St kilda really need a KPD but there are surely cheaper options out there.

I'd be very surprised if St Kilda aren't looking at other options. It seems like this trade is being pushed by Brown's management more than St Kilda. From all reports Brown has been offered a massive deal rumoured to be 1M - 1.2M over 3 years. Paying overs however St Kilda have a lot of cap room with Riewoldt's contract being cut in half next year and Goddard leaving as well.

Trade won't happen without Goddard compo.

Bloody bookmark it.

Pick 13 will not be used to get Brown. He simply isn't worth it. How could a guy playing 2's for most of last season have his value so inflated?

If it were to happen that would effectively mean for the Eagles gaining Pick 13 + Wellingham for Pick 17 + Brown.

Doesn't add up. Despite the contract status of the two layers being different.

Brown will get to St. Kilda through Cripps and a pick 30-40.

West Coast will decide against keeping him against his will and will take Cripps as part of the compensation.

That's beside the point.

That is the starting point for us to trade.

Fair or not that's it.

Agree. West Coast don't have to trade him. He is contracted.

But I sense common sense will prevail. According to most WC posters on this thread he is seen as valuable back up to Glass. Next year Glass is still going to ahead of Brown. Then he is out of contract, and can walk for minimal compensation.

WC are smart enough to not let that happen. I would be very surprised if he didn't get to St. Kilda in some deal involving Cripps and a 30+ pick.

Time will tell.

To compare Brown to Glass is akin to saying "eat this shit it tastes like marshmellow".

Cripps has little value and a 30+ pick is a nothing pick...not going to happen

According to your line of thinking Brown will hold little value next year if he wants to come home then. Out of contract, former first rounder, hasn't held down a regular spot...

That's why the Eagles will trade him this year.

Pretty simple really. You must understand. Your post proves it!

So why would WC trade him this year for little value then?

Cripps and Brown are entirely different players

Brown has shown he can hold down the no.1 back position, he kept buddy to 1 goal in the first and goaless in the next 3 quarters against the hawks and has performed above average in all games he has played this year except for when he got a broken nose in the first qtr.

Brown cant get a game because there are only 2 Key Back positions on the field. He is behind Glass - The All Aus captain and behind probably a player in the top 3 young KPDs. He cant displace Schoefield as he cant play the 3rd tall role Schoefield does.

Cripps plays a mid/ff, he cant get a game, theres 6 - 8 players in front of him at the saints who rotate through the middle/ff.

There worth is no where near similar

If we cant trade Brown this year I expect him to play 6 - 10 games depending on injuries and I think Glass will be rested at times. He will show his worth however he will be uncontracted so I'd expect to get a pick between 25 and 30.

Now, with Brown being contracted, I would hope to get a pick between 13 and 20

Never did I say they were similar players.

I understand that they are completely different. With 5 more years in the system Cripps could be a very good player. At the moment Brown isn't. He has potential but thats all it is at the moment since he can't play regular footy. Next year he won't either, unless Glass or others go down with a knee etc.

By the end of next year he will be worth a similar amount to Cripps is this year.
