It's day 2 of a 3 week trade period. Plenty of time to still get things going.

West Coast will make a bit of noise, and try to get us to bump our offer up.

I just remembered that Chris Pelchen is now at the Saints. There is a real chance this deal won't happen as he's such a prick to deal with.
I'd say that West Coast not being willing to part ways with Brown for 13 if it were offered is more of the problem...
Vozzo is more of a prick to deal with by your definition.

''Mitch did tell us that [he wanted to be traded to St Kilda] in discussions with his manager Liam Pickering on Saturday, but we told the manager then what I am telling you now and that is that Mitch is a contracted player and very much a required player and we see him as an important part of our future. We see him playing for us for the next six years and more,'' West Coast list manager Craig Vozzo said.

That's quite clear cut from Vozzo but i think saints will eventually offer pick 13 which west coast will have a look at.

Vozzo just came out and said we wouldn't even trade him for saints Goddard comp according to a poster on our board.
Yep saw that, But i feel when Saints actually do offer it or maybe offer 13+Cripps for Brown and our 2nd or 3rd round pick, They will probably agree to it on the basis of brown wanting to leave if he didn't would have been a different thing altogether. As we will still have Stevens pick and Lynchs Compensation pick hopefully all under pick 40.

I highly doubt we will offer pick 13 for brown. Whilst we need a kpd brown is definitely not worth pick 13 so I think we'd just end up recruiting a stop gap from the state leagues before we let it get to that.

Bulldogs were pretty adamant that Lake was contracted and going no where a week ago. Fast forward and he is traded to the Hawks for not a whole lot. I doubt the Saints will trade Pick 13 for Brown, I think Cripps and a 2nd rounder would be the very most that the Saints will part with. However, it may very well end up that Brown stays at West Coast.

Lake will be 31yrs old before next season and was going to be an unrestricted free agent next year on top of that they saved around 600,000 per year according to the sources, So at 32 and an un restricted free agent the year after Dogs would have got nothing for him compared to what they got for him in pick 21. So there is no comparison there.

I don't get the whole "WC are playing hardball argument"

It's not as though we are demanding high picks and say stuff it, he can walk if we don't get out own way

We are simply saying that we have a contracted player that we intend to keep until at least his contract is up.

How is that relevant? All I said it that the Dogs were saying that Lake was contracted and going nowhere, just like West Coast are saying with Brown. Unless you are telling me that the Dogs didn't know any of that information a week ago and just learnt it yesterday so they decided to trade him.

or hold on to him, convince him to stay on a long deal, and he becomes a vital cog in a premiership backline

not keen to see browny go, certainly not for cheap. while he hasnt been first 22 as yet at the eagles, he is a quality young player
Good luck with that one. Who will he oust next year?
