I mean, he might spend time in defense if they see him as the 7th man to throw back when they're getting belted, but they've got more than a few talls in Weitering, Plowman, Marchbank and Jones, I wouldn't think they'd need him there.
Yeah I was surprised but certainly heard it as that was why he was recruited. I May be wrong and won’t look back through interviews to check!

West coast Probably would than come over the top and offered Sydney pick 20/22 for pick 13 which their could then pass onto Geelong for Kelly. Carlton were never going to give us their 2019 1st pick and losing a 2019 3rd rd is no big deal.
It’s a big deal in that it hurts our points needed for Sladojevic. Carlton should’ve given Sydney’s 3rd rounder if more was needed.
Just a dumb trade.

I was hoping for better but pick 13 and steak knifes wasnt a bad result. But why did we go so early. Was it so we can ditect all our energies into the Stengle super trade.

There are two lines of thought.

1) Sydney as a trade partner were always going to take a downgrade, and it was about getting it done before they looked in West Coasts direction.
2) We have plans to upgrade 13.

Stengle isn't a super trade at all, that's just a simple late pick for player, or 71 for Stengle + Richmonds 5th. That'll happen near the end of the trade period as an after thought trade.

^^^ Good post.

If that's the only trade we do that will impact our first choice 18 then it's not a good look for a team who is supposedly in a premiership window. In a non window year if that was the only trade we did than you would give us a pass, a C perhaps. However, as we are in a premiership window we should be adding to our first choice 18 rather than losing. The last 2 years we have lost Lever, McGovern and Cameron and only traded in Gibbs. So this year, so far, you would have to give us a D, a fail.
Kind of agree and I don’t really see us in a premiership window anymore

We are ‘ selling’ it as though we are but by hitting the draft so hard I think we are in a mini build again

Expect us to finish 6th-10th for next 4-5 years then be a big shot again

You reckon Mitch will turn up early to train with the 1 - 3 yr players to make a good impression at his new club?

So you reckon our club is planning to just eke out a few years and try harder when Sloane, Walker, Gibbs & Eddie are all done?

**** that.

Pessimist in you is showing up!

If we sort the fitness department and mend the relationship between the ****wits and the playing group we could go on to win the flag next year. Big if on the first two considering the knobs in charge but one can hope!

We have to be careful, any move will probably cost us pick 8 and theres no reason to suggest we wouldnt get Hately with that
Why can’t you keep 8, spill the teen pics and a future to get lower down. Rozee and Hately job done.

I agree on 6th-10th. But the last 3 flags have been won by teams I expected to finish 6th-10th. Lets hope we are number 4. :)

Totally disagree ......Top 4 this year, if a couple of our small's step up ....McAdam, Murphy, Stengle, Gallucci, to supply that missing speed in the side

A fit Brad Crouch, Smith the whole year .......Fogarty the big one, if you ask me

No, I think we're a little like West Coast ...a bit underrated

Stengle isn't fast.

Stengle isn't fast.
Fast as in leg speed, maybe .....but speed is also about reading the play, getting to the opportunity & sometimes that's also speed of mind

Definitely possible. Do you think Tex will be back to his 2016 form with a good reset? I think he is the biggest factor in what we can do next year. Will Eddie Betts kick 60 or 30? Can Sloane break a tag next year and get back to being one of the best mids in the AFL? Will Matt Crouch play like he did in 2016 or 2017. Can Sauce break even or is he cooked? Some pretty huge turn arounds to what we saw in the last couple of months of football is needed. Pretty much all of those things need to turn in our favour at the same time if we are to give it a shake.

Hope you’re right ! I don’t like the look of our rucks and forward line

Happy with mids if fit and backline

The second bit will be very hard to achieve and will hold us back

Other teams have also gone ahead so we need to get to where we were and then some

I’d take 5th next year for sure

They’re all already past their best , side they will play good games but we won’t be great until they are not our best players and guys like Laird Smith Milera crouches galluci Fogarty are

Jenkins, Walker, Lynch and Betts is still one of the better forward lines in the competition. 3 of those, plus McGovern weren’t fit for most of last year.

Forward line is also heavily dependent on what’s happening up the field. So combine that with our midfield missing B Crouch completely, Sloane either missing or playing unfit, M Crouch with multiple injury layouts essentially not finding his best till late in the season when it was all over, Greenwood playing off essentially no preseason when he desperately needed one, Jacobs going from essentially a career best year to downright average...

As has been mentioned earlier, from a win-loss perspective, we were closer to 3rd than 13th, when we finished 12th.

Whilst there’s no doubt a lot of work to be done, I think Stiffy’s right in that if we can sort out the fitness and mindset side of things, we’ve still got a hell of a lot of upside.

My biggest concern is the ruck department, I’d have liked to see us bring in someone who could at the very least challenge Jacobs for the #1 spot. This may still happen as well. Jacobs could very well rebound too, he’s had bad years before and was no doubt hampered by injury.

Or even if they don't, we bite the bullet with the next man up until our preferred man is actually right to go.
