McGovern sounds like a sensible young man.

Sort of put paid to the slanderous Cornes and Blighty rubbish.

Well done you man, look forward to you grabbing plenty of crucial marks when it counts.
No sensible footballer wants to play for a bottom feeder club like yours.

slanderous my ass

why has Young now changed his tune from " lost faith in club direction" to "it’s more about the post code where he wants to live"

a massive back peddle

if a trade is successful Gov will get an uplift in his contract by more than $100k a season and his partner will get to melbourne where she wants to be (pussy whipped)

again the big word is "If"
Sit tight there, Ranger. The deal will be done and both parties will get what they want. Whatever you do, don't hold out for Pick 1 to be remotely considered in any deal. You will be disappointed.

Just remember that the value of Mitch is not going to perfectly align with what you or anyone here says.

End of the day, if a player doesn't want to be at your club - be happy they're going and move on.

Yep ....Sam Petrevski-Seaton :)

Earlier in the year Colin Young flat out denied that McGovern was looking to leave the Crows, then states that they have been talking about it since the middle of the year.

The dude flat out lies, don’t be so naive!

Notice he said “similar” which is very subjective, and then stated it would be 3 to 5 year (i.e 1 to 3 MORE years than the crows) - that is not a “similar” contract.
He's getting paid some cash, over some years, to play some footy.

See, similar.

why would we let a contracted player for the next 2 years go for 2nd rounder which we probably won't use at the draft.
Why wouldn't you use a second rounder at the draft? This is an awesome draft for depth as well as top end talent, and if you think that the seconds we've got currently possess no value (outside being traded down for a first round pick, which if they are worth nothing why on earth would you do it?) you're dead wrong.

It appears the clubs priority is to move up to attain top end talent in this draft, not to bat deep into it. The Blues may end up only spending some 2nd rounders and their mature picks to get Gov, but in that situation it's required that the Blues help facilitate the Crows getting that pick they want. We're moving Gov to get that pick, so I can't see us trading him without having already worked out a deal elsewhere that will satisfy us in hitting our goal.

The post I replied to stated this:

... which was the part I disputed.

I don't especially care about what he's worth to you, but seconds in this draft are rolled gold.

Only way I see a player being involved with the McGovern trade is if you express interest in one of these state league players we're getting access to. Best ones of the past few years have been picked in the early-mid 2nd round. So could see one of them (again, conditional on Crows' interest) and your 2nd being the offer.

Be an interesting trade period, now! Nothing like a bit of Reid/SOS argy bargy to get us excited about October.

Yeah that ain't happening

I get that, and I still don't understand why clubs are so infatuated with the top end talent in this draft when you've got a veritable glut of genuine AFL talent all through it. Picks right up until pick 40-45 are going to be good ones.

My position the whole way through has been to try to get some picks between 20 and 30 after trades to ensure that we're around to grab some of the pacy forward/midfielders in there, but given our desire to pick up Shiel/McGovern/Setterfield, it's going to be a struggle. Be interested to see how things turn out in the end.

Rolled Gold is maybe over the top ....early 2nd round certainly valuable .....but a 2nd round is neither true value or part of our bigger agenda

I keep going back to ....if Charlie Cameron is #12, then McGovern at the absolute worse is equal to and better .....#10 - #12 of go away

A deal wont get done, won't twist that way

There are deals that don't get done and players who are happy to go back to their club and play out the year (read: Gibbs). This is not one of those situations. Seems far too much bad blood for Mitch to play for the Crows ever again.

I'm confident a deal will be done - hopefully early in the trade period so both clubs can move on - but if not... I see it closer to the McCarthy situation (ex-Giant forward) than Gibbs.
