Traded Mitch McGovern [traded to Carlton in a three-way trade involving Sydney and McAdam]

Was this some kind of gentleman’s agreement between list managers that I’ve missed?
SOS says what he says about contracted players last year, but that doesn’t apply this year? You really believe that?
I don't even know what they're are on about anyway. Freo and Geelong are both digging their heels in over Neale and Kelly respectively. It's not like teams are rushing out to trade contracted players this year.

Pretty fair price too.

Yep I think that seems a very fair price. Crows fans want value for his potential not what he has delivered. However, he has reached an age where he needs to be measured more for what he has delivered than what he might. Hence I think this is good value and somewhere in between.

This is about right regarding his value normally. Given he contacted for 2 more years it goes up (just like every other player). 10-15.

Gov has a huge amount of talent. Imo there's a good chance that could turn out to be a steal. It's a shame he wants to leave.

This is my point. He will be 24 when he starts next season and it is time he was measured on his output not his upside. He's worth a late first or second and McAdam. I have a bad feeling for crows fans who may have set their expectations too high.

Agree to disagree then. His output in sheer numbers is low due to a late start and injuries. Watching him play, the quality of his output is high. I'd be happy to have an unhappy Gov keep playing at the club than receive a mid second round pick and a player rated as a 3rd to 4th round pick.

So you'd be happy to force him to stay out of spite and then lose him for nothing at all?

Rose colored glasses are part of supporting football. But even through that tint have you not noticed that your club has a morale problem approaching catastrophic? I've seen happier groups of Seven Eleven employees.

It's generally agreed in football that disaffected players should be moved on for whatever the market will pay (which is not the same thing as what supporters want the market to pay). Of all clubs, I would suggest Adelaide more than any can not afford any more discontent,

Just a quick question for you because you seem like you think you know what happened at the camp and think Adelaide has big issues.

How come 18 players signed contracts this year at Adelaide?

He's got 2 years on his contract. We can always play this game again next year. We won't lose him for nothing at all.

He's still around the club as part of his prescribed rehab from surgery. Pretty sure he could find another place to do rehab if he hated the club sooo much. I don't think he's as disaffected as the Vic media are making him out to be.

So your position is that there is no division or morale issues? Just to be clear and all.

Because if you think that, you are in a tiny minority.

History shows that of players taken with picks 20-40, only 20-25% will make it to 100 games, and around 15% will make it to 150.

Conversely at this stage, McGovern is a near certainty to play 100 games, and likely to play 150. Further, with a single pick in that range there's a good chance we don't land a player of comparable ability.

Tactically McGovern is/was a pivotal cog in the most potent forward line in the competition for 2-3 years, because his unusual combination of athleticism, work rate and elite hands/marking ability meant we could have an extra marking option inside 50 without sacrificing forward pressure. Any Crows fan who has watched games where McGovern has been replaced by Otten in the forward 50 will know this all too well.

Given he's in contract for another 2 years, that's the risk Carlton will need to convince the Crows they're being adequately compensated for with whatever they put on the table before they sign off on letting him leave.
