Look the last few weeks have been an absolute nightmare, lets be honest. But there is some good news!
Every time I have EVER written up a preview over the last few seasons, we have WON. So don't worry our season isn't over, in fact I personally believe it has just begun.
Sydney Swans vs Collingwood Magpies
Round 22
Friday 9th August - 7:40PM
SCG
Sydney's previous form - Lets not go into great detail here, we have fallen away from the Swans brand of footy
Collingwood's previous form - Collingwood have been up and down all season. but come into this game after an incredible victory over Carlton.
Last time they met: Sydney had an incredibly round 2, ruining the party as Collingwood unfurled their premiership flag!
What has gone wrong: I feel like a multitude of things have gone wrong, personally I think the balance of our side is out of what, losing gut runners like McInerney/ Papley and replacing them with underdone/ slower players in Parker and Mills has damaged our brand. At the same time I feel as if our fitness has dropped off (Likely due to a large load build with finals around the corner).
How can we fix this?: First of all, Mills needs to be moved to defense, his doing nothing up forward. I would also drop Parker and go with a lighter faster midfield.
Key Matchups this weekend?: First of all, the first lock with be Mr Jordan to Nick Daicos. After that I hope we don't lock down on Collingwood and back ourselves head to head, see if we can actually recover a little bit of form. I can see us potentially sticking someone (Maybe Wicks or Hayward) on Crisp if his playing out of defence.
Key Players for the Swans?:
Heeney: Heeney has been locked down in recent weeks, I feel as if we can free him up a bit this will go a long way to us winning the match. Maybe that involves Warner being on a half forward flank potentially, but I would love to see us allow Heeney have a bit more space to move.
Grundy: We need Grundy to find his form from earlier in the season, his been out of touch for a few weeks now and its showing (I also don't belive Ladhams and him make a good pairing).
Final Prediction and how the game will play out?
Swans by 42
I am expecting us to rebound HARD will definitely have a few statement selections this week (Can see Ladhams, Parker and potentially even Adams out at least). Collingwood may be a bit tired after last week, so hoping we can make a statement early on and run away with the game, building up our confidence.
If not well... there is always 2025.
