Just watched it. They know this talk works all the supporters up. I think they are just ****ing with us because it’s a good story for them either way if we get them or if we don’t. Have to just wait and see, but they look alright

Cal twomey video on AFL.com talking about Owens abd windhager it honestly sounds like it couldn’t be any closer for them being too 20. It could just be pot luck if there’s one or 2 teams that fancy either of them inside 20

I really strongly doubt either do still. These pot luck drafts might even mean we find another Sharman late anyway. Both look promising but junk time picks is where Libba the bin chicken does his best work. If one gets taken it just gives us a chance at another player.

I’m all for a pick swop. Turning 9 into some later teen picks and trying to protect these guys. Potentially end up with 4 first rounders in that case

We need top talent more than piles of GOPs. We already have plenty of that.

Think the comments are a bit OOT.

Cal said he still thinks its more likely than not that Mitchito last til after 20, and noone has had Windhager earlier than 20 either.

I understand that some clubs may see them in that 15-20 range, but the evenness of the draft means that its also likely players they rate at 10-15 may still be there in the late teens.

Regardless, all we can do as a club is make sure we have the draft capital to get them in if they are bid at 20 and 21, and that includes making sure we keep our future 2nd so that any outstanding points don't take away from next years first rounder.

Probably helps us a bit that the teams sitting within the danger picks 15-20 are nearly all interstate teams (Syd, GWS, Port & Bris) slightly less inclined to punt on an interstate NGA player who has hardly played, especially when they've had players in their own state have an extended run at it. The picks after 20 are the WB/Coll picks which will get absorbed bringing Hawthorn's picks into play post 20 potentially.

Biggest danger is probably Richmond, especially if they trade for WB #17 and hold both 15 (17) & 17 (19). There will be some seriously good talent around those picks though so still seriously doubt they would go for our lads. Us holding Brisbane's picks 14 (16) & 18 (20) holds some advantage, effectively reducing NGA bids to after 19 (not 20). Hopefully someone interstate trades for the WB pick to land Dawson.

Draft Order may end up:
14. SYD
15. GWS
16. STK
17. RICH (This pick would be only a slight risk)
18. PORT
19. SYD or RICH (Slightly higher risk again)
20. STK

I agree. Not based on anything, but the more I read the more confident I am that they won't be taken in the top 20. That would leave us with the problem of getting a pick to match a bid with. Our pick in the 40s won't be enough to match a bid made in the mid 20s.

It’s gonna be a nervous draft night. I will cry if anyone takes them
Next year will mark my 50th consecutive year as a member of this club.

Years and years of hardly winning any games didn't do me in.

49 years without a flag hasn't done me in.

Footscray winning their flag didn’t do me in.

Melbourne winning their flag hasn’t done me in yet.

People can say the AFL has helped us here, and helped us there, however we’ve never really benefitted where it matters, i.e. on the field. For a team that for decades liked to party hard we have precious little to show for it from a Father/Son perspective. And to date nothing from our Academy.

Both those drought breaking clubs have benefitted from these things, not to mention generous FA compensation for the Dees.

Instead the AFL is doing their best to keep Ben King from ever wearing the Red, Black & White.

It’s extremely depressing.

If we are unable to land our NGAs at a reasonable price, AND if Ben King returns to Victoria but ends up at that drug infested swamp near the airport, it may just finish me off in terms of following this sport :(

But if we get both ngas this year and Ben King next year?
