I think it would make more sense to keep a first this year and wait until next year to downgrade those 1st and 2nd rounders for points.

I wouldn't be giving up a first this year just for extra points

Only an option due them having multiple 1st round picks this year

As noted above they'll get a %20 discount. I'd add to that, that I'm %100 positive that the Adelaide Crows will go down in history at the only administration stupid enough to place a bid at pick 1, and the highest Ashcroft would go is pick 2.
Pick 2 minus %20 is 2017 points, 121(#62) points shy of the mark.

Even so, if we take your example of a 1000 (#17) point deficit, it means that they'll trade us #15 which will actually be #17 on the night.
Losing that pick 17 in 2021, and converting in to consumable points that save them from losing pick 17 in 2023, thus crystallizing their potential losses at the maximum possibility.

If they do absolutely nothing, and assume Ashcroft goes at pick 2 or later, they keep #17 this year and drop from #16 to #19 (or 120 points) in 2023.

So not meaning to be an a-hole or anything. But what you're suggesting is the single worst thing they could possibly do. Essentially flushing a first round pick down the drain for no return.

Consumable, crystallising, potential losses, maximum possibility... you sound like GT on one of his buzz word rants.

Whatever that word breakfast above means, the basic premise is that Brisbane will need points next year. Whenever the bid comes, they will be short. Whether they want to go into that much of a deficit in 2023 or move one of their two 1st rounders this year is the question. There are numerous precedents were the latter has happened... and I'm not sure how you can so vehemently state that a club won't make a bid on a player ever again at #1.

We were discussing how we could possibly grab another 1st this year before you entered with your 'don't mean to be an a-hole' ramble. Maybe add to that before carrying on with worst thing possible, Comic Book Store Guy style.

Apologies for the word salad then.
Here's the TLDR version.
You're mistaken. Brizzy don't need points for next year.

People need to stop sh1tting their pants over our GNA;s , yes it would be nice to get them at a reasonable price but no good giving up everything just because they are our NGA's .
I'm sure the club have looked at plenty of other kids as they are not just going to sell the farm to get two kids who should be at least in the high twenty's , that crap from Cal saying they have shot up bla bla bla ,, How ?
Anyway I'm sure if they we not linked to us via NGA 99% of the people on here would have hardly have known who they are , If we get them for a pick which the club thinks is fair that's great , lets not go silly about it though and get pantsed

Could be nice to get a cheap shot at a couple of kids rated in that ballpark though. Particularly if we can sneak in an extra pick before them as well, that's a decent draft haul.
Not the end of the world but seems like a nice opportunity if we can take it.

Get where you're coming from, but I think most people are just happy to see us benefit for once from an AFL system. If we can go into a draft no second round pick and end up with a couple of half decent kids that are both rated as second rounders (pick 20 to 40 range) then that's a nice change. Especially if those kids have some exciting traits......

On the nga bidding system. Can we match a bid at pick 20 or is it 21 ?

Agree 100% , i just dont want them to think we must get them at all costs

It doesn’t hurt us as a club if we miss out but emotionally as supporters it would be an arrow to the heart and a cruel one at that. For once we have a chance at something free
Nothing is free in this world

The first column was for 2020. So if we match for pick 21, 197 points off would make us able to take the player for the points value of pick 27 (so 6 pick discount). Matching at the end of the second round, pick 40, would able us to take the player for the equivalent of pick 53 (a 13 pick discount).

Matching after pick 40 gets a bit silly. Once a player is bid on past pick 40, you match with your next pick. So we could match an NGA player taken at pick 40 with the points making up pick 53, but if an NGA player is taken one pick later at 41 and our next actual pick is at 45 we would have to use that pick instead of points for a pick 54. It doesn't seem right, but that's how it reads.

Sick of the Saints missing out on getting a leg up however will probably get over it just as long as they don't wind up at one of the clubs I really hate such as:

Adelaide
Brisbane
Carlton
Collingwood
Essendon
Fremantle
Geelong
Gold Coast
GWS
Hawthorn
Melbourne
North Melbourne
Port Adelaide
Richmond
Sydney
West Coast
Western Bulldogs

I guess I can get it over it if they end up with the Tasmanian Devils helmed by Alistair Clarkson. Be an exciting draft when the AFL surprise drops a new team on the day and moves everyone’s picks back 20
