Won't be Simmo, not this year at least.

Club's acknowledged they're in a rebuild and that last year was essentially a write-off in regards to implementing a new game plan, due to injury/covid.

They've already backed him in for the rebuild, so unless there's a players' revolt, I can't see it happening.

Been a lot of admissions over the past few months from players, coaches & staff of training standards dipping, attitude, fitness, etc that were apparently addressed last year and over the break. This appears evident in the fact that despite the season WCE had last year, the club appears fully united and players look to have bought-in to whatever plan has been set.

I expect most fans to look forward to seeing the kids develop, now that the club's gone on record as stating the need for a rebuild and not a quick 'reset'.

I imagine this will earn Simmo significant reprieve to see out his contract, at the very least.

What happens if you get the spoon and win less than 5 games all year despite having less injuries than 2022?

Looking at your draw, if you don't get a win in the first two weeks of the season the Owen jokes could make double figures and really turn up the heat. The pressure will be on him to get wins early before the harder teams start just to build confidence.

Very safe:
Flags: C. Scott, Hardwick, Longmire, Goodwin,
Bevo (just signed extension)
1st year: B. Scott, Kingsley, R. Lyon, Clarkson*
Macrae - excellent first year
Mitchell - will get to year 3 regardless of results

On solid footing:
Longmuir - would face heat for a complete disaster but as little as 9+ wins with excuses sees him through and they should do that.
Voss - good first year minus the last 5 minutes in close games, would have to go backwards fast to not get a 3rd year

A few cracks:
Simpson - can see him jumping ship if it's a long rebuild, but otherwise should be allowed to start the build
Fagan* - done a fantastic job but he's 61, his sides have been found out in finals at times and he's out of contract, wouldn't be crazy if the Lions bought in a fresh voice. Bit of a Hinkley of the North without the same fan pressure.

Needing results:
Hinkley - right or wrong he's done if they don't finish top 4
Dew - has done a good job but if he went 6 years without finals and kept the job that would be somewhat incredible
Nicks - 4 years without finals would be the Adelaide equivalent of GC doing it for 6, has to at least be knocking on the door
pretty solid Mr Bates and probably the more likely and very "results" based

but I like the idea one of the very safes will seen wondering around Crown Casino with no pants on and nose covered in white powder

bump , gonski

Pretty sure I just explained everything in my post, if you bothered to read.

Don't think the club will make a call on his tenure just because some nuffies are making 'Owen' jokes on Bigfooty.

I get the feeling Fagan is an excellent leader of young men, but the side probably needs a new coach to take a bit of a quantum leap from where they have now been for a few years.
I get the feeling Fagan is a terrible leader of young men from what I read in that Hawthorn report.

I wouldn`t be so sure...those admissions relate to standards slipping under his tenure..and the club are unlikely to put up with another big loss in profits...I think if decent improvement isn`t shown early this year then he could be on his way...

Big loss in profits? We just had a record membership, in our worst ever season...

Also, acknowledging you have a problem goes along way to fixing it. Pretty much the reason why coaches are let go from their clubs is because they only have one way and when it doesn't work they get the boot.

Damien Hardwick is a great example of someone acknowledging their shortcoming and correcting them.

I reckon Beveridge may walk mid-season.

Don't think Weagles or Port will sack either Simpson or Hinkley til the end of the year.

We still don't know what may happen to Clarkson & potentially Fagan.
