Simpson. Proven one trick pony. Jagged a flag in 2018.
Only time he’s taken a star studded list (most all Australians of any side in the league)to top 4 is when he had pyke (2015) and Mitchell (2018) as his assistants .

Not sure who they’d replace him with , probably a west coast stalwart like sumich .
Suspect Sumich would be welcomed back with open arms. Highly respected amongst fans in WA footy.

Bevo just signed for 2 more years after this. If he was going to walk then the Saints were surely strong contenders before they hired Ross, he could've attempted to force his way out when Ratten got sacked. With most of the likely job openings being outside Vic I can't see him looking to uproot his life to move interstate to coach a lesser list than the Dogs list. The contract means this year is a bit of a free hit before pressure comes next year.

Simpson isn't relying on win loss anymore so there's no time to sack him. Eagles can weather the finances of a dud year too.

Kenny is gone the moment Port fall out of flag contention. If they're 5-8 he's probably gone in June. If they're 9-12 he's probably gone in August. If they make finals but don't get through to first 2 weeks he's gone. If they finish top 4 but lose a prelim he's still probably gone.
Nah, it won't be Kenny. He's definitely got photo's.

Crows fans got pretty upset in the ladder prediction thread when I raised how hard the first half of their draw is and how they could spiral rather than push for finals if they don't start reasonably well, but this might be the thread to discuss it as it will dictate Nicks' future.

He really needs to knock off a couple of finalist early or they'll come for him, I feel.

I might be a bit harsh on the Crows as I reckon that if we've got the worst midfield in the comp then the Crows have the second worst and I don't think much of their defense either, but up to the bye they play 6 of the 2022 finalists which is a hard run, and they also face Port and Blues, who most see as sides that will rise.

Will 5 wins to halfway mark be ok? Or does the AFC expect more?

If they don't knock off the Giants, Hawks and Saints and they lose all of the bolded games below, which they'll be doing well not to, they'll be 0-9, Nicks' papers are probably stamped and he'll be a dead man walking by June.

R1 - Giants 50/50
R2 - Tigers - L
R3 - Port
- L
R4 - Dockers
- L
R5 - Blues
- L
R6 - Hawks 50/50
R7 - Pies - L
R8 - Cats
- L
R9 - Saints 50/50
R10 - Dogs L
R11 - Lions - L
R12 - Suns 50/50
R13 - Eagles 50/50

They're my big watch going into 2023, as Nicks' already has some detractors amongst Crows fans/members and even with the challenging start to the year they'll expect some wins against a couple of more highly fancied sides at home.
Lol, we know you are obsessed with us... particularly about out 1st half of season. ;)

As I mentioned before, how we perform over the full season will dictate whether Nicks gets a contract extension.

I expect we will win most of our home games (& have an extra this year) & usually split Showdowns.

However for Nick to be extended, he will need for the side to show improvement & that we are looking ready to challenge for finals in 2024 when most of the side have played 50+ games.

So you think you’ll win most of the following games, because you’re playing at home…

Richmond
Fremantle
Carlton
Lions
Collingwood

And you claim other club supporters wear rose colored glasses!

Confident we will win most of out home games - it's unusual for us not to.

We have 13 home games not the 5 you listed! Suggest you study the while draw, not just games of your choosing!

BTW, Carlton have never won against the Crows at Adelaide Oval, so not a scary prospect.

It's weird you are so triggered by wanting the Crows to finish at the bottom of the ladder.

You are going to be disappointed your team are fighting the Roos for the spoon. ;)

Derp. The posts and the point I have made are clearly about the first half of the season, not the entire draw.

Your go-to argument is that I am obsessed or triggered, when I simply think there’s massive question marks over them.

Your midfield has been neglected at the draft, there’s very little coming through there of any substance that look like geniune match winners to date, so much so you yourself have even been pinning your hopes on Rachele and Rankine playing as part-time mids and your backline is quite underwhelming.

Crows will be doing well to not finish bottom 4.

WCE won’t sack Simpson before the end of the season - but it could be his last year if things go to shit and he’s ready to move on.

So I suspect it’ll come down to one of the other clubs - probably in South Australia - decide to pull the trigger first.

Part of me really would like it to Hinkley because that means Port are having a bad season and we have their 2nd and 3rd this year….but then again….if they go well and he gets an extension…it would be so funny to see the Port fans completely outraged.

So with that in mind, I’ll say Nicks.

Fagan may walk depending on his stamina for the Hawthorn stuff. Chris Scott might decide to go out on a high if he just can't be arsed with it any more.

Dimma is probably getting a seamless transfer of power with one of his assistants ready, but will hold on a year or two longer. Ditto Horse.

Specifically sackings? Ken seems likeliest, followed by Bevo and Simpson. Mitchell an outside chance.

I'm interested to know who the next SuperCoach will be. (NOT to be confused with tipping comp of same name) and the next assistant to ascend to the ranks of successful senior coach.

McQualter or Clarke at Richmond and Leppitch at Collingwood seem the mist obvious, but I dont know that many.

Most look safe to me, including Kenny Koala, but I always think that.

My focus is on five established Premiership Coaches.

* Simpson has an ordinary and ageing list. The signs of the WCE decline were there when they reportedly struggled in the lock down period. Should their performance be similar to 2022, I reckon Simmo will call time.

* While Bevo re-signed, his team struggled against top Oppo. His public appearances were increasingly eccentric and Im not talking about the episode with the former Fox idiot. A fall back to mid ladder would surprise few. How Bevo responds to this and public pressure could be an interesting ‘watch this space’. He may pull the pin.

* Clarkson takes on the task of scaling Everest. North however are not at base camp, but occupy a cellar at Arden St. He also has the ongoing Inquiry bubbling away, the possibility of adverse findings and potential legal battles. Of course North would keep him even if there no improvements on 2022 or even if they went winless (which no one wants or expects). Clarkson has always seemed the most competitive of coaches. I wonder if the year off has been sufficient a break? It would be a shock if he pulled the pin in 2023, but not so much if he finished up in 2024

* Horse like his close mate Clarkson is a competitive beast. He presides over a handy young list that did well in 2022 but copped a royal flogging in the GF. At season end, he looked physically spent. He has returned looking better and in good spirits. His contract is up for renewal. I predict he and the Swans could begin/announce a planned coaching succession. That plan would be implemented irrespective of how the Club fares in 2023. If this happens, Horse will stay on in another capacity.

* Like the Swans, Richmond is a very well run Club. Hardwick has countless credits in the bank and is unsackable. However like some others listed above, he will closely monitor whether he has still ‘got it’. The Tigers have had some cracking assistant coaches and Gale is a great CEO. I wonder whether Hardwick will, with Gale, instigate their own succession plan.
I should have read a few more posts before I opined, I could have just liked this instead

Bit odd to see some Crow fans up in arms at the suggestion Nicks may be a close watch.

Wouldn't have thought it's overly controversial to suggest he may be in trouble if the Crows don't take another step forward in 2023.
Which Crows fans are up in arms that this may be Nick's last season?

Show me the quote... as most on our board acknowledge this.

Won't be sacked during the season though.

We finished outside the bottom 4 in 2022, now have more games into the kids & added Rankine.... so would be surprised if we end up bottom 4.

You had an easy drawing last year while this year you have arguably the hardest start to the year of all non-finalists.

Reads post. Looks at team poster supports. Lols.

Freo would love a one trick pony coach.

To date all they've had for coaches are no trick donkey's.
