He's a generational player. Phenomanal player to be honest.

The scary part is that he will improve significantly.

People have criticized him for not being a big contested ball player, and it's true he's not but he's also not bad in the contest by any means.

Give him a few years and that part of his game will come on as well and he will move into a full-time midfield role. He's going to be unstoppable.

I think he's GAJ-level good in a few year's time.

The kid is a jet. Probably the best kick in the league and his decision making is great, his work ethic is great and he has great balance. His contested work needs work but what he is still killing opposition outside of the contest. His disposal numbers obviously don't tell the full story as he does take a lot of kickouts plus the pies simply go out of their way to give hm the ball but I don't blame them.

I'd like to see a team tag him first though before going early on him. He hasn't really faced a proper tag. For the majority of the game no attention is put into him. No rough stuff, nothing. It's been pretty pathetic by opposition coaches at the lack of work that they put into Daicos. They're obsessed about 'system' lol

He's actually had more contested possessions than the entire Essendon midfield bar Parish and Shiel for the season. Its a bit of a myth..thanks Lenny for pointing it out.

Only knock on him is the low contested possession count and statpadding by high amounts of kick ins (fair enough when he is one of the best kicks in the game).

Last week he had the highest contested possessions in the league for a backmen. Likely still the same this week.

Bit weak sauce and not very good knowledge of how football works to simply say that doesn't count, because he doesn't play in the center like a Luke Ball type player though....

Ultimately you can’t score if you don’t have the ball. What would you know about winning anyway?

But don't teams score predominantly from turnovers?

Meaning, you're actually more vulnerable with the ball.

Question...how long do you think Daicos actually has the ball for?

So let's say he has 10 'possessions' in a quarter...how long would he actually be in possession of the ball for? 5 seconds? Maybe 8? 10 if he gets a Free Kick or takes a mark?

So realistically, on a day when has 40 of these magical 'possessions' he likely is only actually in possession of the ball for about 30-40 seconds of the 6000 seconds of the game.

So I think that the 1980's line of 'when you have the ball it means they don't' is just a little outdated and missguided.

Greg Williams 2nd year :

League MVP
Geelong b&f
4th in Brownlow
675 disposals @ 30.68 per game
1985 AFL average disposals per game = 602
1985 AFL average disposals per team = 302
Geelong disposals for the season 6,811 @ 309.59 per game

Williams averaged 9.911% of Geelongs disposals over the whole season.

Nick is so far averaging 9.666% of a Collingwood's this season.

It will be good to see the comparison by seasons end.
Greg debuted when he was 20 yr and 6 months old, he was older than Nick is now when he debuted.

Really surprised at the ammount of people trying to shoot the kid down. He'd be the best player in like 14 odd teams as a teenager in his 2nd year. It's pretty incredible.
If he wore any other jumper it wouldn't happen. This is because Pies live in the heads of millions :)

To be honest, I'm not seeing many people trying to shoot him down at all.

Most acknowledge he's really good and playing really well.

There are a some though that don't seem to directly correlate a player's possession count with their ability and/or impact as a player. And they're absolutely correct.

And Daicos was 19 meaning a year older than many starting current players.

And a couple of years older than many previous era players where starting at 17 was common, but there were some 15 and 16 year olds.

Etc.
And what’s that got to do with Greg Williams?

So what? The statement was made about his 2nd year, I just threw another 2nd year player into the mix.

Nick has had all the advantages of modern pathways and coaching / mentoring.

Diesel was rejected but Carlton twice and went back to bush leagues.

Lmao, wtf is this logic. Do you even read what you’ve typed before you post?

Honestly this is next level. First you have the nerve earlier in the thread to complain about one sporadic draft concession that all teams get, based wholly on luck, as a GC supporter. You know, the club who’s had more draft concessions than any club in history, and will benefit again this year from the rort that is the northern academy system?

Now you’re trying to convince people that it’s better to not have the ball. Not having the ball is apparently what wins games now. Keep posting, this stuff is gold.
