With due respect, but they must ALL go....that monstrosity in any form is not our jumper....it belongs in a cartoon book..

The board needs to explain this to all the members, frankly I think it is bullshit and as weak as piss. I had much higher hopes for Angus and Malcolm and this is the first time they have failed imo. A timeline is needed as to who made it, and exactly when this decision was made ! Answers please.
:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Ah, they renewed the design last year.

Without a doubt, the biggest kick in the balls the current club board could deliver to some of its most faithful members.:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Lions_Insider there may be good reasons for this that the general public are unaware of, but if the club intends its "Relentless United Respectful" vision to be regarded as more than hot air, it needs to commit to something to address this - quickly. Put it to a member's vote. Simple. Until it happens, the club will not be united. I for one, will support the boys till my dying day and will renew my membership without question, but I will not respect a vision for success that flies a flag designed by (now departed) men whose decisions led the club to its most divided point in post-merger history.

How many more e-mails does the club want to deal with before something gets done? **** me, at this rate, I'll nominate for the board and take my chances. The club simply hasn't listened, it seems. Give us something re: this issue and united, relentless and respectful we can be.

Totally with the majority of your post, but I cannot agree with the bolded section. We are getting lip service & being led around by the nose.

Should this prove correct I will not be renewing my membership next year. I just drafted an email to the club stating this - but will hold off till it is confirmed.

I have had a gutful of the paddlepop., I have had a gutful of being told the new administration is änswerable to the members". Crock of shit.

I have been a member since 98, but obviously emails & other groundswell is ignored. For me the point of acceptance has been crossed.

I don't get how the Lions board still opt for the same horrible jersey even when most of the fans hate it and want the old Lion back. It would go a long way in reconnecting with the members. Really hope they put it to a public or Members vote.

By the way, I had to google the definition of "ambivalent" before selecting it. :D

I clicked disappointed as I am prepared to give the benefit of doubt that perhaps the renewal was a financial decision and as such am only disappointed that it won't change only because it can't.:(
Had there been no renewal and we were free to change and didn't, then I would be pissed.
What is staggering is that no one knew?

Can't argue with this at all. At some point, the club's made its bed. The numbers will have to do the talking in one form or other, whether that's feedback on this poll, financial numbers next year, or numbers at an AGM.

Part of me thinks he is a troll.

Unfortunately, it's definitely not a troll.

I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt considering I don't know the thinking behind the decision or the other factors involved. It's obviously not a good look though.

I'm not sure an active confirmation will be issued. It wasn't last year.

Malcolm advised me that the Club was open about the issue with anyone who approached them about it.

Extremely disappointed. I can only hope the club communicates with it's members as to what is happening with it. We haven't had the jumper long, perhaps it might have been a financial decision to run with it for another term. Either way members should be told why, especially when it is one of the top things we want attention too. It won't stop me being a member next year, i'll still support the club, and i still like the changes the current administration have put in place. However, i will continue to not buy any merch with that horrible hybrid paddle pop lion on it. The only merch i've bought since that horrid thing came in is items from the first 18 range, which have the old logo. I refuse to spend $1 in supporting the image that has caused so much angst for our club. where is the saveourjumper website at these days?

Sigh bad decision, I'm guessing they are trying to bleed as much money as possible out of this jumper..... Will lose members due to this. come on Lions listen to your fans!

Think Mr Holmes had a few other issues to deal with last year, barely a few months into the job.

Never mind the financial costs of ditching a barely recently created jumper as well as the timelines involved.

Just thought I'd add my 2c before the effigy burning started

And the Lions will again not see one cent of my money (in terms of merchandise) spent on them for another season. I threw out all the free merchandise with the paddlepop on it, that came with this year's membership.

So it looks like its three-four Fitzroy jumpers from the Fitzroy Shop next year instead for myself, family and friends. That's about $300-400. The proceeds at least go to a very good cause - the Fitzroy Football Club.

I'll decide next year at some stage whether a 2013 membership is worth buying at all. Might be better to spend the equivalent on Fitzroy. Membership and Fitzroy player sponsorship.

Somehow in relation to Fitzroy, the Lions keep shooting themselves in the foot. Very frustrating, especially when one compares us to the Swans / South Melbourne.

You and me both, especially the highlighted bit. Could've got the 2011 Lions polo a few weeks ago for $1.25 and still didn't buy it!

Only thing with the paddle-pop that I have comes with membership stuff.

seriously doesn't bother me. I drive past the lions club everyday and I like the new lion. plus I also work across the road from the gabba... good stuff

cheekyLionsFan, aren't you a cheeky one!

Yeh. I'm pissed off at Brown Dog.
I thought you had the hot tip??? :( :( :(

Steady on. I don't recall claiming I had the "hot tip".

Either way, cool your jets and focus your anger on the people responsible, which in this case is largely the AFL and it's ridiculously restrictive policies. I'm as annoyed as the next man and have been fuming about it for the last day or so but this revelation doesn't preclude movements in clubland. It's not my place to say any more.

Didn't Melbourne and Port get to change their clash jumper after one season?

Hmm...I don't want to have to see Simon Blacks last year in that stupid design and I am due for a new one.

Contracts can be broken, find it hard to believe that the AFL couldn't step in over something like this and allow the guernsey to be changed. It must be a 'minor' issue to the club if they are happy to have the players representing everything they work for wearing a pooly designed guernsey.

Think Mr Holmes had a few other issues to deal with last year, barely a few months into the job.

Maybe.

Holmes was appointed March 2011. But would have thought the decision was the Board's. Angus was made Chairman in August 2010.

Not sure, may have been two?

As someone who has worked a fair bit in the area of deregulation and fighting red tape, I can't stand overly proscriptive policies like this with no flexibility for extenuating/special circumstances, although I suppose all clubs would consider themselves "special".

Would have liked to see the club push back a little harder but with all the other AFL assistance we are receiving maybe we didn't want to burn political capital.

Either way, people should know that people of influence within the club want to see that strip gone too.

My first reaction when bob told me about this earlier was the same as Gibbo's. Genuinely shitted off that Simon Black and Jonathan Brown will probably play their last games in that monstrosity.

It would've been nice if they had informed us of this earlier, rather than letting us spend the whole season getting our hopes up.
Do you think there was an expectation that it would be changed?
