My understanding is that he was OOC at the end of 2002, which is when we were grabbing Carey. This was our only real opportunity to trade for him, before he settled in as a permanent Freo resident (only using the AFC to up his contract offers).

He was OOC at the end of 2002, however requested to be traded in 2021. Was then convinced to stay and became an All Australian under Chris Connely in 2002 and the rest is history.

Maybe our agents were asleep at the wheel in 2001.

Still the Carey Pav debate.

There is no debate.

We didn't draft Pav, which is the only, repeat only, chance we had of him playing for the Crows. I'l say it one more time, because I ****ing know... Pav was never, repeat never, coming back to Adelaide. This is the truth.

What about in 2021? When he asked the club to trade him?

????…

Thats incorrect and Pavlich said so himself when calling a crows/freo game with Roo just a few years back.

He said wanted to come home and play for the crows.. even tried to at one stage but there was just was salary cap issues at the time that stopped it..

I'm impressed. Maybe we should have given Freo an empty chip packet, given that that particular trade would have involved a player who was 5 years into retirement?
I mean, we gave pick 2 to North for someone 1 year into retirement.

But it wasn’t the correct call, even if you try to convince yourself it was
Getting Carey was correct.

It should have cost us close to nothing. North had zero leverage and desperately needed him gone.

Pavlich should have happened as well ...

But it was a very different time for these sort of negotiations.
