Imagine if they extend his contract to ward off Essendon
it's happening GIF

Much like they claimed that "Brett Eddy was better than Eddie Betts" and "Brad Ebert was better than Dangerfield"
To be fair, a lot of our own supporters thought we ballsed up by picking Danger over Ebert in the early days.

When they first got him, they were making all types of ridiculous claims like "we've got the real Eddy" and also they were fapping on about how they were going to be chanting "Eeeddyyyy" after his goals.

It was pretty embarrassing stuff

I remember after the Eddie Betts pocket got christened by the media they got the sads on that something was named (albeit colloquially) after one of our players. I remember them trying to get the "Matt White wing" to stick. We might as well have tried to name something the Josh Jenkins Goalsquare or the Jordan Gallucci flank :D

I was filthy.

Remember hearing Russell on AA that Saturday morning he was devastated that he went to WCE and we didn't pick Brad.

Rioli is enough for the Alberton folk to believe that they will be February Premiers again.

Give them a favorable draw in first part of the season and the Alberton folk will be drinking from their own bathwater.
lets hope so.. top 8 and Kenny gets a new 5 year deal

I actually don’t think that is far off, Port have already used the media to sow the seed around his future intentions to lessen the blow should it pan out this way (give or take a couple draft picks).

Future Kane Cornes reading out the pro-Port memo provided by the club:

“I like what they’ve done here. They have got a player who wasn’t committing to the future beyond 2023, he’s young but he’s been inconsistent, in and out of the side and the list at West Coast is a bottom four list. Port could have lost Georgiades in the PSD for nothing next year, they’ve moved him on and brought in genuine Premiership talent and kept the Amon compensation pick, and banked a future high second rounder. Adelaide have gone out a brought in Rankine, who lets face it plays a similar role to Rioli for $850,000 plus. Take a bow”.

Port fans are currently melting over this

Some Port supporters seem to think that they'll only have to part with a 3rd round pick for him 🤣🤣🤣

They're definitely not better off, even though I've never rated Amon all that highly if they essentially trade Amon for Rioli then it's definitely a step backwards.

I know they are paying him more than he is worth but his trade value can't be high

He is such a nuffie haha

I guess when the AFL have rustled up the necessary Club votes .....all very political ....as is the actual need for an AFL team in Tasmania, the new retirement village of Australia

Interesting fact ....how many other AFL clubs have required “guaranteed” Govt funding to get a Club off the ground ? ......all that is happening is we're creating yet another North Melbourne type Club

Elite sport should & is, about improving the spectacle and standard .....by only having the elite of that sport at the highest level ....the pyramid principle

The AFL continues to defy that principle, by adding more clubs (GWS, GC ect) and spreading the talent, ever thinner .....the AFL did the same with AFLW ....crazy stuff adding more clubs so quickly, already it's clear the the football public are laughing at the AFLW standard this year .....a situation created by the AFL for political appeasement
Another reason to make Aussie rules 16 or 14 a side. Remove the biggest spuds from every list.

I, and many Crows supporters were inordinately nervous on that day. My head said we should win, but my heart sank at the thought of our premiership window being wasted in another PF loss. It turns out my nervousness was much better directed at the next week ...
That buzz around the ground after the final siren was surreal it made the cost of the tickets that night so much worth it.

That and Sloane taking out Dangerfield.

Or

Do what is bleeding obvious and have the National elite competition with 14 teams.

Result is the biggest spuds are removed and you haven't had to bastardize the game to 14 a side.

But this solution would take leadership, vision and the best outcome for the game. Whereas we know the AFL is only interested in whats best for the Victorian teams.

AFL interested in one thing and that is the Broadcast deal.

More teams equals more matches each week, which equals more opportunity for broadcasters to sell advertising space.

14 teams results in two less games a week which would severely impact the bottom line.

Doubtful, the two crappiest games each week are not ratings bonanzas but the networks still have to cover the costs of broadcasting them.

The lesser TV money would be offset by not having to prop up 4 basketcase clubs each and every year.

If you were starting an elite national competition there is no way you would have 10 clubs based in one state, its sheer lunacy to defend how the "AFL" is comprised.

Not sure if the team felt the same way, it would exaplin the GF result, but the mood around the ground afterwards and definitely my feelings were that of relief. Finally in the GF. Got the monkey off the back. It was almost as if the job, or the hard part, was already done.
