Freo, Collingwood and Brisbane in a dog fight to see who will be one of the weakest top 4 sides in memory.

What other contenders do we have from previous seasons?

North Melbourne at one stage under Scott

Actually they must have choked and missed the 4 the year they were top for most of the year. North 07 can be in the mix anyway.

Prefer Collingwood first up?
It makes me more nervous but maybe we need that early.
I'd probably prefer Freo despite what I just said, simply because it would mean Collingwood could take out Richmond but then be a decent shot of not even making the prelim (e.g if they faced Sydney in a semi). Thus it strengthens the "only 3 contenders" reality.

But I can see the merit of surviving a tough QF and getting great belief at the G nice and early.

Hawks in 2018 (equal on points and 0.32% behind 3rd/12 points and 16% behind 1st)
Went into finals on a 6 game winning streak but only 2 of those were against top 8 teams in a poor Geelong and an average Sydney.
Smashed by Richmond in the QF, then bounced in straight sets to the Demons in a semi final. Both games over 30 point margins.

Saints in 2008 (10 points and 8% behind 3rd/32 points and 51% behind 1st)
Weren't top 4, then Milne kicked 7 in their last game of the season to give them a massive percentage boost and sneak into 4th last game of the season at Adelaides expense.
QF copped a smack from us (58 points), won a SF against 8th placed Collingwood by 6 goals, then Hawks smashed them in the PF (54 points).

WCE in 2011 (4 points and 14% behind 3rd/12 points and 37% behind 1st)
Collingwood were shaky after getting rinsed last game of the season, and then only just got over the Weagles at the G by 20 points.
Weagles then nearly bottled a home SF to Carlton and only just got over the line by 3 points after being behind early before getting flogged by us in the PF with the match being done not long after half time.

it’s been a while since we’ve had a tough game, I’d almost rather we didn’t draw a soft QF opponent so we don’t go into a prelim without having been tested in months.

Are you bloody kidding me?
You just take a win whenever you can get it.

I don’t care if the opponent is missing their top 10 players.

of course I’ll be happy with a win however we can get it, but I’ll be nervous about the prelim if the last challenging game we played was in july.

Think that's Jake Stringer done for the night.

Tom Hawkins has received 14 free kicks for the year. Tom Lynch has received 4 thus far tonight.
