As insipid as Brisbane were last night, Melbourne I think should be viewed as the favourite to win the flag again this year. They I think have a gear that is a bit better than us. The challenge will be to negate them and try get the game played on our terms. They smashed the Lions in contested footy - we won’t be anywhere near as bad, but we have a challenge to break even here.

Interestingly the Lions had more inside 50’s but their entries were poor. The Demons had little trouble defending.

I’d be surprised after last night if it isn’t a Cats v Demons GF.

Its because lions always play into melbournes hands by bombing it long to the spare (usually lever). Play fast by hands and short kicking and you slice them open and win. Bomb and you lose. Hopefully we dont make that mistake.

As for melbourne yes they have that gear but we havent seen it for 2 months. If not for pickett they would miss top 4. They might turn it on against us in a GF but they also might not get there in the first place.

A Melbourne supporter is spreading a rumour that Zorko sledged Petty's sister. Apparently Petty's sister used to date or was engaged to a Lions player named Ryan Bastinac. According to this Melbourne supporter, Zorko said something like all the Lions boys chipped in to pay for this sister to get an abortion. Others are on that board speculating Zorko said the sister was getting it on with several Lions players and that is why they all chipped in for an abortion. Also something about Petty being upset about this because they are Catholics ... ? It seems like an upsetting thing to say to someone without religion being brought up.

Personally I am not sure how this Melbourne supporter would have known so quickly after the game what was said. The supporter also had a meltdown which was a touch wild to read. Really sick thing to invent if it turns out to not be true.* (Edited to add for clarity: if the sledge turns out not to be true.)

I just don't see how the supporter knew so quickly after the game. I figured Zorko said something about a female family member just given Zorko's terrible reputation here in Brisbane when it comes to women. Maybe this Melbourne supporter assumed the same and just invented something deranged?

Then again, it is Zorko and he would say something twisted about an opposition player's sister.

This rumour will just gain legs so it will be curious to see how Zorko, the Lions, and the AFL handle the sledge or if we even find out what was actually said.

Hope Petty is okay. Poor guy. He's only 22. Hope the family member who was sledged is okay too.

Not sure why the Melbourne staffer even mentioned to Richo on air that the sledge was about a family member without speaking to the family member first? It seems to be a really poor way to treat Petty and his family--like, of course people will start guessing what was said and specifically mentioning individuals in Petty's family? Now this Melbourne staffer has got people starting rumours about abortions and stuff. It's ugly. He really should have kept his mouth shut and let Petty and his family deal with the sledge. They should be the ones to decide if people know what was said or not.

I've read elsewhere that the comment may have been about Petty's mum who is reportedly not well at the moment

Until such time as things are confirmed, it'll just be speculation as to exactly what was said

In sporting parlance, being "on the road" refers to travelling long distances and sleeping in a hotel bed.

It doesn't literally mean driving an hour down the road.

It means being away from home for one or more nights. Not away from your "home ground" in another suburb, but away from your actual home: not having a home cooked meal, away from the wife, kids and the bed you normally sleep in; away from your normal daily routine.

It's an old baseball term from America, when teams would go "on the road" for a few weeks at a time and play multiple away games against 3 or 4 teams in other cities interstate.

Seems as if they have taken inspiration from Brisbane last night. Don't these teams want to make top 4? No intensity, missed tackles, they seem disinterested.

Freo is a side that looks to have peaked early and has drifted back into the pack as the year has gone on. No shame in that it happens to a lot of younger sides.

Honestly I think it's been a 3 way race for a while (back when a surprising amount seemed to think any of 7 or so sides were a realistic chance). After this weekend more will be on board with that - I reckon Blues win tomorrow as well.

People rate Richmond and they will probably win their EF, but they aren't beating Geelong, Melbourne and Sydney.

I have at times thought this could be the better route too, if we start off by beating a hyped up Collingwood at the G. As opposed to playing them in the prelim for instance after a soft kill.

With our QF record, whatever gives us most likely chance of a win takes priority though.

Having read the response from Bastinac to this reported rumour - it's crap and not to be believed
