You ruined a great post by sucking up to a mod at the endHaving some late night thoughts and didn't know where to put this so mods feel free to do with this as you wish
Maybe it's easy to say it right now as we're dominating but I just love our attitude towards contending.
Our footy club believes each year should be treated as a year that you can win the damn thing, which at the end of the day is the whole point of the sport. They're aware that for the large majority of supporters footy is just a game. It's not life and death and the reality is we're all going to be more interested if the club's going well.
We refuse to rebuild which in a competition that rewards mediocrity is just so refreshing, and to see what this club has been able to become in the 21st century is just remarkable.
I'm not old enough to remember the dark days but I know enough about the history of the GFC to know that it wasn't pretty, and we've gone from a club struggling financially to an Australian sporting powerhouse.
I think as supporters we take for granted how lucky we are. Whether it be a choice of our own or a rite of passage through family, we are truly blessed to support this football club.

Umm. How do you know?Really hairy backs and bums too ?
Just guessing something about breeding ?Umm. How do you know?
He hasn't been sacked.Great club but needs leadership top to bottom. Clarko is ideal. Sad for Ratten but looks like he lost the players
If the club is looking for another coach and you have Another year on your contract what would you call that?He hasn't been sacked.

If you want to see textbook definition of "lost the players" or "players have checked out", the 1 minute mark of this is the perfect example
That is actually stunning vision. I've never seen anything like that from a player before.
Indeed. It makes me wonder if we've gone too far with the AFLPA and how much leeway players get these days with behaviour and respect for the clubs/league.I know 20 years is a long time in footy but if I did that to my coach I'd have been dropped instantly for the rest of the season and probably told to never come back.
Astonishing disrespect.

I love the fact that Chris Scott never coaches from the bench.Potentially. I reckon a fair bit is the club too, and how obviously tenuous Rutten finds his job.
If that happened at the Cats he wouldn't be playing.

My view: a head coach needs to be a tactician who can observe the ground and make changes in game as required. You can’t do this from the bench. All you can do from the bench as a coach is be a cheerleader. It says to me that you don’t trust your players to execute what you have asked them to do and trained them to do.
Whenever I see a head coach on the bench I assume that they are a crap team with poor discipline who aren’t well drilled. I assume that the coach doesn’t trust his players or support staff and needs to feel more in control.
No current season stats available
Exactly.I see it as a coach feeling powerless and trying to do something to feel like that can actually have an influence
Maybe he just wanted to soak up a few final minute's of being a senior coachExactly.
It is counterproductive, and I would equate it to being micromanaged at work.
If the coach can’t trust the players, assistant coaches and bench staff to do their jobs, then either the coach needs to go or he needs to change his people.

I think clubs key decisions makers suffer from having an unrealistic expectations of what coaches can achieve. They make the easy decision to export responsibility to a tune of a million dollars a year.Re: Essendon, I don’t see Clarkson as a great match for them.
The last thing they need is another “saviour” to come in and face unrealistic expectations of quick success. It didn’t work with Hird, Bomba or Worsfold. Clarkson would be on a hiding to nothing, he would be crazy to take on the job in my opinion.
Essendon need a disciplinarian who is not afraid to clean house, and take a blow torch to the whole place. That includes pissing off so called “influential club figures” who like to stick their nose in where it is not required. I would puke if he was anywhere near Geelong, but Ross Lyon is a perfect fit for Essendon.
North is a much better fit for Clarkson. He would get complete autonomy and decision making power, there would be no expectations of instant success and he could build a sustainable footy model from the ground up.
