..and I think those factions are religious and non-religious groups. Apparently GAblett likes to take a group in some sort of religious prayer if they so wish, before each game......I find that very odd, and imagine it would be a bit off-putting for those that don't indulge.

I read about this quite some time ago and if true should not be allowed leading into a game imo.
Yeah they should just snort some cocaine pregame to cater to all factions...

The Gold Coast game thread is an interesting read. Lots of calls for Ablett to be dropped. It seems the golden child and his wife may have outstayed their welcome down the road.

Something really doesn't seem right down there but in an odd way. I wonder if the team is split into factions and the coach has lost one of those factions.
If that's the case I feel a bit for Hanley. Out of the frying pan into the fire kind of thing.

Despite the rivalry when we play I really wish the GC all success and I consider them my 2nd team as I am a very proud Queenslander. It sounds a bit wishy-washy but Browny said 'something just doesn't feel right with them, something's missing, the club just feels empty'. What's the go? I had them marked as a big improver this year, eating my words so far.

The gold coast is not a conducive environment for a professional sporting team. Not one team, in any sport has ever been successful there.

I would suggest the off field activities are affecting on field activities.

Watched them first hand on the weekend. With Ablett not attending everything in the middle, and JOM and Prestia gone, GC has no real way to get first hands on the ball consistently. Once they get it out they're dangerous, and if Witts can give them a clear first touch the same applies but if it's contested the likes of Hall, Miller and so on aren't going to win many hard ball gets.

The GC players that have averaged over 9.5 contested possessions a game over the last three seasons:
  • Ablett - 2014, 2015, 2016. Not playing at full capacity.
  • Prestia - 2014, 2015, 2016. Gone.
  • Swallow - 2014, 2015. Just come back after a long lay-off, not playing in the middle full time yet.
  • Rischitelli - 2015, 2016. Injured.
  • O'Meara - 2014. Gone.
  • Hallahan - 2015. Injured/not best 22.
Miller is the best of the rest with 8.8 in 2015 and 9.4 last year.

And as good as Hanley is, it's not his strong suit either. Not sure why Will Brodie can't get a game.

With all the issues at GC, still really surprised that all of Ainsworth, Brodie and Scrimshaw (and to a much lesser extent Bowes as he is a local) would recommit so early.

- Overawed 18 year olds get a big figure pay number put in front of them
- Haven't been there long enough to see any surface issues where the real problem might run deeper
- Enjoy cocaine and/or praying
- Coaching staff/club rolling out the red carpet for them because they're desperate to solidify their list

Just playing devil's advocate though, I thought it was a big call for all 4 of them to make

I know I shouldn't but had to have a chuckle at the cocaine/praying comment

I think they need another fresh start. Their list is full of talent. A new coach that can get the most out of the group could see them rise. I wouldn't be surprised if they beat the Hawks playing at home at Metricon. Would love to see the Hawks go 0-3.

I reckon Lewis was the most lucky, how can you break someone's jaw and get away with medium impact??

I reckon they could contest hogans and get low impact with a reasonable chance of success.

Rest I thought were ok

Didn't Frost get medium impact?

A real test of Richmond this week. I think they can win vs. WC, especially with Dusty set to play.

Not a huge fan of Cloke's old man's comments this morning. Easy to sit on the sidelines and take pot shots! I think Collingwood haven't been that bad and am a bit surpised at all of the chat.
