Plenty of teams make draft mistakes.

Not everyone goes begging tot he AFL 3 years in a row for draft assistance.

How is having your top end talent 24 and under an issue? That's exactly what you want when rebuilding, or would you prefer if your best players were 28+, like WCE were this year?

Clubs shouldn't get compensated because they make dumb mistakes with draft picks, they should get help actually getting a competent administration before anything else.
Not every team wins 12 games in 4 years either. We have been shit and it has sucked.

I am happy with where the talent is coming through and optimistic for the future even before the PP's. The point I am making is that the experienced group of senior players have not been good enough to lead us to wins.

The club has clearly made an effort to fix up the football department and hopefully we are finally getting a structure in place to become a more successfully run club.

But you have a coach well past his used by date with a fair few years left on his contract.

Well done to the AFL on encouraging teams to be worse in the short term to get massive handouts.
I don't think they are. With Tassie about to come in, other teams won't be afforded the same largesse, it wouldn't be fair on Tassie. Now is the perfect time to get these handouts. Let's just say that the assistance is generous and much appreciated. Thanks AFL, you are awesome.

What's the cutoff of wins?

Brisbane won a similar amount in a 4 year period and had players walking out constantly.

What did they get?

This is literally the argument for why you shouldn't be getting more picks...

Carlton won 2 games in 2018. We already had a young Curnow, McKay & Weitering. Plus Doc and Cripps.

What's to say you don't have similar talent waiting to emerge and you will be getting more handed to you at the expense of other clubs?

It's not going to fix your leadership/development issues.

Brown went on to win a premiership

Meanwhile North are begging for players. Wouldn't you be in a better spot with Larkey and Brown as your forward pair?

Brown has been injured lately, yet struggles to get into a top 4 side. Would walk into your best 22. Perfect example of poor list management

Push out one of your better players for little in return. I don't see why you need to pick between Larkey and Brown
Pushed out?

The same Ben Brown that turned down an offer of 750k x 3 years and followed up with a massive dip in regards to availability and form. We would be copping shit the other way if we had paid BB that sort of money in retrospect.

It's a significant improvement of the inexperienced Noble with his biggest support enjoying life in Hawaii.

I don't think you can have a set number of wins as a rule but it certainly works as a pretty good indicator as to how poor a team has been.

If I recall correctly they got a 1st round priority pick. They also were lucky enough to get a guy like Lachie Neale for whatever reason choosing to go there in his prime.

Brisbane got 1 PP, after the first round, not 3 at the end of the first round.

What has Lachie Neale got to do with anything? He was traded for picks 6 and 19.

How is that even relevant?

19 wins for the lions from 2014-2017

12 wins for north from 2020-2023

Over 50% more wins than north.
Wow, 7 more wins

North wouldn't have been far behind if they didn't interchange infringe vs Sydney and throw the game vs West Coast.

Could've beaten Essendon also, if they bothered trying.

There were a few other close games.

All clubs agreed to end the priority system. Including North.

Talking about the old system is laughable may as well bring up how you went in the zoning system.

Reality is North have been far more successful over the last 10 years in terms of finals than a number of clubs. Including Carlton.

North get a handout because you are essentially an AFL charity case. It's that simple.

Westcoast Eagles wouldn't get special consideration. They have members that turn up.

So you can spin it any way you like. The AFL used it's secret herbs and spices to gift you more charity. You are basically the Goldcoast Suns, but at least they can say they are a new club.

The fact the AFL continues to support the rabble that is North Melbourne is simply another reason why the AFL is a bush league run by potatoes.

You guys are winners as well, my mail is the AFL only offered this compo if we guaranteed we will offer a portion to trade up for Reid which we will have to so WCE get the overs as well.

Trickle down economics I guess.

Lol, North won't offer what WCE want in a trade.

If they do, they're morons.

Also, the only real 'trickle down' economics come from WCE to the rest of the league.

Bottom 4 for the same period of time.

Your 'maths' don't mean s**t.

You’re being silly

Under the old rules pick 1 priority pick required you to win loess than 5 games in 1 given year.

The Lions averaged just under that over the 4 years

North averaged 3. Which under the old rules would have been 4 number 1 draft picks.

If you can’t see the difference I suspect you don’t want to.

They will be back cap in hand in 12 months time. Nothing surer. This second lot of handouts doesn’t encourage immediate improvement.

Sad how far this once great club has fallen. No pride. No future.
Will you delete your account if we don't?

So North and the AFL are also doing back room deals to further manipulate the draft? Will the AFL also force West Coast to trade pick 1? Even though they’ve thoroughly earned it by being the number 1 shittiest team this year?
