I'm a season ticket holder for the Bulldogs... Went to all home games in Sydney + all away games in NSW (Excluding one due to the flu) + Melbourne game at Olympic Park... Also went to the Origin, GF + 7 other games not involving my team.:)

I also went to 3 Football games (Including the Socceroos games in Sydney) and counting... AFL games i've been to in my life = ZERO!:thumbsu:
Congratulations mate.
Do you have any idea what the average crowd attendance for AFL is compare to that of RL??
Look it up, it might explain why it's not so noisy at all those games you go to.

I watch my team play mate... I couldn't careless who else or how many others go.

Do you go to AFL games (If you do) to support your team or the atmosphere? I go to support my team!

I saw the light and at around the age of 10 i found out that every Rugby League game looks the same.

I was born with the light... I knew every AFL game was piss boring, like watching head less chickens running around, fumbling away.

Rugby League... The Greatest Game Of All!

You didnt answer my question earlier. Why did you join this forum if your not a fan of Australian Football?

I've been a member since 2002... I enjoyed posting in the RL section and hearing Melbourne Storm supporters (I have a soft spot for them) + This board goes crazy with anti-RL stuff (RL threads are pretty much started by AFL fans:confused:) i like to give another opinion.

Just FYI the funniest moment in my 5 years on this board was...

An AFL fan claiming AFL was bigger than RL in PNG And other AFL supporters believing him HAHHAHA that was GOLD.:thumbsu:.

Keep up the Anti-Rugby League threads... Any publicity is good publicity aye.

Thugby League is indeed the biggest game in PNG. Looking at some of the things that go on there, I wonder why?

no... It's because no one outside of VIC, SA, WA and Tas give a **** about AFL!

Soccer is the sport for many of the war torn countries... Can we use your theory their?

AFL is gaining popularity in the PNG though.

well I am a fan of both and these threads are just a big YAWN.

Here are two simple facts for everyone.

RL is and always will be No.1 in NSW and QLD even if the AFL pump $500 million into marketing.

AFL is and always will be no.1 in VIC,WA,SA and TAS etc etc etc.

why people bother really amaizes me that there are so many insecure souls in both sports.

Having lived in both main states I know how entreanched both are in the pysche of the majority of the society in each of the states.

Inroads might be made by both in the targeted states but will never be surpassed by the competition for 1st.

The sooner all you dimwits actually wake up and realise this you might get on with your lives.

Probably because those countries haven't heard of Thugby.

I am a fan of football, as in soccer, but Australian Rules has it all over both codes of rugby, and also 'soccer' in terms of popularity.

Well they dont have much.
Most RL clubs run on a revenue stream of around $11m per year. AFL clubs run a revenue stream of around $25m.

Top NRL players get around $300,000 pa. Top AFL players get around $700,000

NRL gets a slight disproportiate TV rights money (ie, more than half the AFL's one) because they sell more exclusive content to pay TV, and thet've sold their soul for a night grand final.
Ironically, News Ltd, the pay-tv operator also owns the NRL, so the TV rights money is really just funny money moved internally to avoid tax. Even more interesting is that News Ltd owns 3 or 4 clubs. Those clubs have been far more successful over the last 10 years than the average non-News club. In the AFL this would be an outrageous scandal. In the NRL there isnt enough people to care.

Yes, you're on the money:rolleyes:

Indeed there appears no boundaries for the almighty dollar.
Putting it at night is just throwing away tradition for a few bucks. It's just gutless mentality.

News Ltd also are strong force that influence not only the TV rights, but owning clubs makes the results of games questionable. So much so, that when people say the league is propping up the Storm for ratings and Victorian support, you should genuinely believe it as a fact!

And then there's the sponsorship to clubs and the game, which they themselves don't have pride, decency or respect to hold on to the club cultures and heritage. I mean, did you see that Storm jumper; it had a big Medibank logo on the front and barely any resemblance of a team orientated uniform, apart from a bit of purple. And then a few years back, I remember the premiership trophy, that heavy cumbersome looking thing, with a Winfield advertising on the bottom. Didn't see it this year, but is probably mainly due to restrictions on smoking advertising these days.

Frankly, the mentality of these League people, they wouldn't question prosituting anything, even their mothers!

So when Russell Crowe has this Souths doco on ABC, it's hardly heart wrenching stuff, yet understandable, to see that a neanderthal club has been swallowed by the other clubs who were more willing, and better, at selling their soul.

The sad thing is, that the AFL advertising and marketing has been influenced by the NRL. Such was their willingness to sell for anything, the AFL and clubs have had to be wary and ensure sponsors and such were still retained. Hence the fact that clubs and coaches have small advertising logo's all over their clothing including their collars. But at least we have kept much of our tradition alive, and we still can recognise our teams colours and uniform, rather than a sponsor's.

I have a dream of AFL ruling the entire country, yet even Sheedy couldn't get thru to the NRL slaves who have learned to love the smell of shite.

Shhhhhhhhh. A thread like this kicks off each off-season.

This thread will probably be 100 pages long by January.

Resume hostilities chaps.

So many people on this Board have some serious insecurities.

Enough with the mine is bigger than yours crap.

If you like AFL more than NRL fantastic keep it up.

Same old numbskulls with the same old inferiority complex...they must feel like they are the nrl's evangelists or missionaries maybe... sent out on some sort of desperate hunt for credibilty and to spread the word.

Yeah, you tell them champ, tradition:

Kicking out Footscray and Fitzroy, North being shunted to Canberra/Sydney/GC,

Abandoning traditional grounds like Waverley so that all the Melbourne sides play out of 2 stadiums,

Rigging the draw so that crowds are artificially boosted,

Giving 'concessions' to Sydney and Brisbane so that they win comps (at the expense of shithouse clubs like yours) to try to convert 'Thugby' supporters,

More games pushed onto Pay.........I could go on and on.

umm....notwithstanding the rest of your quality retort - could you inform me as to who owns the Sydney Swans? Thanks in advance.

The thugby lads are back on the Afl boards, basicaly because there is f**k all going on in their game that is remotely interesting,as usual.

When did Waverly become a traditional ground?
Windy Hill, Arden St, Glenferrie, sure, but Waverly? It was the original, and worst, of the corporate monoliths.

me too.

Having spent a long time living in Brisbane, I can say that the tradition for NRL grand final parties just never was there.

Whereas I went to countless AFL grand Final parties in Brisbane.

You have to wonder how they calculate the massive number of Grand FInal parties (both here and overseas) into the ratings mix.
There generally was rugby league BBQ's etc before night grand finals. Night grand finals suck the wang, altho i went to the pub this year so that was ok but it was a crap game.

I know its not really relvant but can anyone tell me where Rugby League get all their money. Even the worst AFL clubs still have higher crowd figures than the best NRL club and the AFL television deal is worth more money than the NRL tv deal. Where does the NRL get all its money?
Souths and Manly are both privatised clubs so they have other sources of income than leagues club
I would prefer memberships etc but wont happen in the near future.
Leagues clubs are often pricks tho as it is, set up by the various footy clubs and then very tightarsed with their funding to said clubs.

Dont really get alot of the league bashing on here, its a completely different sport, why do you care? You can enjoy both, as i do personally, for different reasons. League for the intensity and cos, frankly, its the toughest game to play physically. And watching players like Johns and Fittler play has been awesome over the years, altho the talent is wearing a little thin these days in the halves - too many hybrid players ie wingers look like centres looks like backrowers.
