Ratings counts what? Number of TV sets tuned to the footy? If so that'll skew the results big time.

Everyone gets together to watch the Footy on a big screen at a pub or a barbie. I don't know a single person who watched the game alone: everyone was happily crowded around with a bunch of family and friends, except the poor sods who had to work.

The Rugby league was on in the evening, anyone channel surfing at the end of the day is goinmg to catch a glimpse of the bumsniffers at work.
Excellent point.

Let me get this right b/c there are figures that clearly contradict what you are saying.

What football code do you think is most played by most Australians? rugby, Aust rules or soccer?

Australia wide, soccer. But that's certainly not the case in every state, or even in most states. In 4 states, Australian football has more participants.

The AFL grand final was sssooooo borrrriing and is a slap in the face for anybody on this forum claiming AFL is the most exciting game in the universe. Let's face it - the game was over at quarter time. It was more boring than NRL grand final and the A-league grand final. At least in soccer the game can still be won up to the last minute.

Didn't the A-League grand final have a score of 6-0 last year? You idiot.

AFL
Games - 185
Total attendance - 7,050,945
Average attendance - 38,113

NRL
Games - 201
Total attendance - 3,332,638
Average attendance - 16,580

The answer to this entire debate lies here. In the past, now, and forever. Not in some easily fudged TV figures. It's way too easy to sit on your fat arse and watch a game on Telly. Much more difficult to get up, go across town, line up and pay lots of money to actually BE there. Ugly League fans cling to the ratings figures for dear life. Next to this, they are meaningless and completely irrelevant.

How many watched the NRL GF because it was the only thing on? Being in prime time also is a big advantage.

Exactly. Daytime gets a fraction of prime time. Everyone knows this.

League is owned by TV which is why audience is maxed out by playing the GF at the primest of prime time slots. Everyone knows that as well.

AFL has more fans than NRL. Everyone knows this as well.

The AFL crowds are maxed out by scheduling the draw so that it will ensure the biggest crowds. Everyone knows that as well.

Well I really can't help it if you're a bit slow.
ok, since you can't even elaborate on the shit that you type here is a little lesson on just some of the AFL inovations that NRL has copied:

Hold on ******** it's a hell of a ride..........

The Draft System

The Salary Cap

State Of Origin

Playin on Anzac day and other public holidays

Playing at night

The Macintyre top 8 system (which we no longer use as it is crap)

The Footy Show

The Tribunal System

----------------------
Things NRL are yet to borrow:

The Father Son rule

Other posters feel free to add other AFL inovations here:

At least you know how to spell knobhead so well done on that one I guess.

Is the Queenslander giving the thumbs down to the State of Origin which is the clear highlight of the RL calendar? What a goose!

And, yes, the idea was stolen from Aussie Rules, and probably just as well for Rugby League!
