I feel its going to be closer than people imagine, Perrottet has seen the writing on the wall and dialled back some of his more right wing policies.
agree it will be tight. n.s.w has shown itself 2 be conservative leaning in recent times. the a.l.p not being seen as a viable alternative has also been a factor. hopefully the corruption of bin chicken's time won't be forgotten.

Surely someone has to call NSW Clubs bluff on the cashless card ? If there ever was a time for both parties to come out and say whoever wins power will implement it it would leave NSW Clubs out in a limb and no matter how much money they spend on advertising and lobbying they won't be able to influence the election as much if any.
Shows the weakness of politicians that they can't smack down all the so called 'benefits' of clubs funded by gambling.
It's not as if they are trying to ban gambling just try and address the problem gamblers and money laundering.
NSW Clubs has to be the strongest lobby group just about nationally , the way that both side of politics cowers from them is pathetic.

Well this sets the cat among the Labor pigeons:

just performative, won’t affect the election

anyone who cares about what the unions think will never support the Perrottet government because of how toxic the rail and education disputes have gotten

at best it’s an indicator that the unions might force the ALP to change their policy for the 2027 election

A whopping seventeen letters about pokies on the SMH Letters page today before any other topic gets a single mention.

Murdoch is in a tricky position with all this

I'm sure the DT would be champing at the bit to go into bat for Clubs NSW but the reform push has come from the Libs which Murdoch desperately wants to see a win, after the disappointing losses recently in Vic and Federal election

Quite the conundrum

Transport Minister David Elliot is defs against the cashless card - and we have confirmation the Nationals aren't all that thrilled about it either. Not sure anyone will be surprised by the Nats.

Throwing loyalty to his leader to one side, Elliott told reporters he hadn’t seen any evidence the cards were an appropriate policy intervention and warned against “demonising” one form of gambling because it could push addicts to other forms like instant scratchies or horses.
“I’m keen to find where in the world the cashless card has worked,” Elliott said. He argued a grandmother shouldn’t be prevented from putting $20 into a poker machine after a session of lawn bowls – a highly misleading scenario given no punter would be blocked from gambling under cashless technology. On and on Elliott went, in an argument which at its core seemed to be that if the government couldn’t solve problem gambling across all forms of betting in Australia and around the globe, then it shouldn’t bother trying to deal with poker machines in NSW.

But not once in his dishonest rant did Elliott acknowledge that a cashless card is actually designed to combat the billions of dollars of dirty money washing through the state’s poker machines each year. The NSW Crime Commission and NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb have both said the link between criminal proceeds and poker machines is a serious problem and have praised the potential of cashless cards to deal with it. Any flow-on effects which reduce problem gambling would be an added bonus but it is not the primary intention of cashless technology.

Edit: David Elliott was on the board of directors of Castle Hill RSL for more than 7 years and with the Australian Hotels Association for 4 years. 10+ years involved with pubs and clubs

Labor bending over for NSW clubs isn't a good look I can tell you.
Looks absolutely awful
You'd think if both parties took an approach to pokies reform the power of Clubs NSW would diminish overnight.

I'd imagine there'd be a few True Believers disillusioned with Labors cynicism
