Mackie nailed it. Wright saved face on the Henry deal by having the deals combined. I don't really know why the Hawks were punting Mitchell with only one year left on his contract, but they had their reasons for selling him cheap - unless Stephens is good?

10 out of 10 for the Cats. Not sure on the other two. Depends on Mitchell - seems too good a deal might be buyer beware, although McRae has worked with him before?

Anyway Pies have improved their 22 and added much needed depth.

Cats set themselves up beautifully for the future, but slightly backwards next year with Selwood gone. Bring on next season.

I could see why they would trade Mitchell out, and even pay his salary, if they got a decent draft pick back to put towards the rebuild. For Stephens and a couple of picks that neither Geelong or Collingwood would have used is a head scratcher to me. I would back Mitchell to bounce back like Smith has at Geelong. It would be hard work going through the motions and being asked to play different roles in a rebuilding team. Stepping straight into a team in contention and back into their natural role is going to give a player a new lease of life.

Stephens looking every bit a draft bust at this point in time. He was contracted so if the club rated him at all they would have held him to his contract like Sav. They have traded him away for nothing really. Very very rare that Geelong get those sort of decisions wrong.

Cmon mate thats rich. I dont necessarily agree with collingwoods overall strategy (particularly the paying grundy to go to a competitor in) but mitchell is a gun. Just about every club would be happy to have him for 2 r3s (in this draft especially).

Every club except the one that knows his abilities the most? Hawthorn haven't won a clearance for years.

Wouldn't want him anywhere near the Cats, would you?

Brownlow medallist, please. Pies have tried trading those in before.

Both will feed Oliver Pettracca Brayshaw all year.
I do agree. I think rucks are valuable to your team as your mids are so good that they slay it if given a slight advantage. For other teams if you give mids a slight advantage, the advantage is not enough for them to exploit.

With us, I think you miss the point that we were desperate for a big bloke who can lead at the footy and provide a contest - that's McStay. Ollie wasn't competing for that role, he was competing with Elliott, Mihocek, Johnson and Kreuger or alternatively WHE if Henry got his endurance up. So there is a couple of good players and he'd be in queue of potential players. But we need McStay to play a different role than Ollie can.

Ah shame, we just filled out our quota of Jacks bringing Bowey in.
After your success with Stengle as a DFA, Madge could be worth a shot. Got switched forward in the VFL late in the season and outperformed the guy playing next to him - some soft looking guy wearing 16, who seemed to spend most of the games running his fingers through his hair.

What do you guys actually think Mackie did to get you pick 7? You do realise GC was shopping pick 7 around the comp with Bowes?

What Mackie did was bring in two prior first rounders, and paid for it with a first round pick, second round pick, and trading out a prior first rounder from the club. It’s not exactly magic.

Don’t even get me started on your pick swap with the Lions.
The only thing of value he traded was pick 18. It’s like the fishes and the loaves.

The happiest person from all three clubs involved in the trade will be Ollie Henry, by far, and that says more about the clubs than anything else.
Why would Ollie be happiest? Why wouldn’t Tom Mitchell be happy to be going to a contender? Or Cooper Stephens to a young side he’ll get more opportunities at?

That is not the right way to look at it.

Whatever picks were used to acquire Henry and Stephens are irrelevant. They are the definition of sunk cost.

Only think of what those players are going to produce in the next 10 years when assessing the deal.

The upside of Ollie Henry is infinitely higher than Cooper Stephens. No offence Cooper.
I disagree with that assessment, though. I thought Stephens had more upside. But I guess we will find out in the coming years. Don't get me wrong, I am glad we got Ollie - just didn't want to lose Stephens.

Also, that was just a dig at the Hawks.
