Traded Ollie Henry - Traded to Geelong as part of a reported 3-way deal (details tbc)

The deal is classic Geelong.

Let the other team have an insignificant win at the end of the deal so they can get the deal done without embarrassing themselves in front of their fan base. Geelong gets the player they want at a price that are happy with. And then when the deal is assessed in 2-3 years time it is clear that Geelong have made out like bandits.

Wells has been doing these types of deals for years, this deal has his stamp all over it.

Pleasure doing business with you, please come again👍
I'll admit, I am disappointed we got rid of Stephens, but in Wells we trust.

25 and 16 with one year development, for 14 and two years development, and Hawks getting reamed in the deal seems great when I think about it.

You lost Grundy, Henry and some picks and got a slug and late picks in the 20s back.
Absolute horror show
You guys paid a first rounder, two seconds and a third rounder across two drafts for another GWS kid, a GC player who needed pick 7 attached for clubs to take him, and the very same Henry you were saying is nothing more than a 189cm medium forward who has no defensive skills and could easily be a bust. All whilst then giving up your own young first round midfielder, who some of your mates claimed has equal potential as Henry.

Very easy to put a positive and negative spin on any club’s trade period.

We shall see in 12-24-36 months who had the better trade period.

Trading out young 1st round midfielders from a club that is needing to replace old midfielders.

We brought in bruhn and bowes on top of parfitt and holmes to come back in. Im pretty sure our mids will be ok.
Also our record with r1 picks in the teens (sdk aside) is pretty terrible so i wouldnt be relying your post on that. That said i think stephens will be a good player

That is not the right way to look at it.

Whatever picks were used to acquire Henry and Stephens are irrelevant. They are the definition of sunk cost.

Only think of what those players are going to produce in the next 10 years when assessing the deal.

The upside of Ollie Henry is infinitely higher than Cooper Stephens. No offence Cooper.

Pies win that deal eeeeaaasily.

Geelong meh.

Hawthorn got rolled big time. What the heck
You've been fooled. Mitchell was always going for a song. No idea why really. It'd only one year of his big contract left.

If the basic deals were done separately. You'd be saying the Pies absolutely smashed the Hawks and rolled over for Geelong. We lost on the Ollie component, but dsguised it really well. God knows if Stephens is good enough to level it all-round. Does he actually exist.

Personally, I'm happy with how that panned out. Cats get Henry and kept their future first round pick (and Ratugolea). Pies get Mitchell and P25. Hawks get Cooper Stephens and the kid gets an opportunity to play AFL level where I think he'll do well, just needs the opportunities that he's unlikely to get at Geelong.

Has a kid telling the world he’ll walk to the draft. Then gives up a first rounder of his own, along with an early second round pick after starting with pick 38 😂

Another feather in his cap
You aren’t one of “those guys” who assess a player’s current value by where they drafted 3 years ago are you?

Well, this is awkward isn’t it???

For shame.

You’ve been nothing but courteous throughout this thread, and I’ve got nothing but respect for your posts.

You have too by the way.
Im sorry if ive been a bit too harsh on you and the reasonable pies fans in this thread-theres been a lot of heat the last couple of days on all sides. Ive let the heat get to the better of me in some of my posting since yesterday so ive overstepped a bit.

As it stands i reckon its good..while i dont think he is a big list need henry has undeniable talent if he can work on his defence. Im sad to lose stephens mainly because hes just such a ripping person and a bloody hard worker but he wasnt best 22 and we have a lot of midfield depth. Hes no spud but we can cover him.
Mitchell is a good add for collingwood who need to win now and as i said letting henry go would help them win on other picks or players.
Hawks are obviously basically tanking for next year (dont blame them good draft in 2023) but are banking stacks of picks and cap for the future and i think stephens will be a decent player for them (albeit not A grade).

I think everyone wins to some degree which is a fair trade.

If it involves another player, it can't be last minute.
Exactly, are we supposed to believe that, with 24 minutes to go, Geelong said to Cooper, "Feel like playing for the Hawks? Never mind doing a medical or ever touring their facilities or speaking to someone at their club.. yes or no? You've got to decide now!" :D

Pick 7 was to take the massive over priced contract. Not take Bowes.
Bruhn and Bowes will both play.
Henry will have to earn his spot but there’s def one in 12 months possibly earlier.
Pick 7 a cherry.
All the 2nd 3rd rounders whatever. Go through the drafts they are mostly junk picks and talent is scattered from 25-65 pretty evenly. Luck of the draw

I've never seen him, so for it to be last minute,I suspect he doesn't exist.

What’s pathetic isn’t owning your own previous posts.

What did you say earlier about Stephens vs Henry? Do you still believe that or are you fickle like I’ve been calling you all along?

Pretty sure I told you several times now I'm disappointed to lose Stephens. I've told the Hawthorn board the same thing. But I'm just a punter, and Geelong rarely lose good players.

Are you seriously trawling through my posts for Stephens quotes? You're deranged mate.

Here's another - he's a massive upgrade on that crab Tom Mitchell, you should have been targetting him instead.

Appreciated + great to see you own your previous posts you’d made, unlike some others. You’ve been very diplomatic and consistent throughout anyway, so nothing to even apologise for.

There’s obviously an element of risk involved from all sides. If Stephens turns out to be a gun for the Hawks, it’ll hurt the Cats, if Henry turns out to be a gun, it’ll hurt the Pies. I judge trades by premierships, so if Collingwood doesn’t win a flag in the next 3 years, this will be a failed trade for the Pies unless pick 25/27 turn into something good, then it can be a win/win/win for everyone to an extent.

They said the same thing about Luke Ball in the 2009 draft
