Lewis Hayes from Essendon has started really well this year. He’s OOC end of this year.

Jedd Busslinger is not going to get a game at the Dogs. He’s OOC end of the year.

Conor Stone is also OOC. He won’t get a game in GWS’ midfield anytime soon. He was high up on our draft board couple years ago.

Three players we should target imo.

Our second rounder for Lewis.

Hawthorn’s second rounded for Busslinger.

A fourth rounded for Stone.

Does that seem fair?

It’s how we need to use our “war chest”
Target a series of “potentially” v good players and offering them more than they’re worth (at this point) - amounts their present club can’t justify paying
Shrewdly identify the former early draft picks struggling for opportunities at current club who might be ready to take off at a new home
Eg Peter Wright Elijah Hollands Jesse Hogan etc

Simply answer is more than we have to offer, unless you're putting Nicky D on the table.

If you start looking at older players then they might bite on Moore, could have done so on Bruz maybe if his shoulders weren't cooked. Both of them are probably a couple of years too old though for the Doggies to be super keen on, given that they aren't in the window right now.

Beyond that spare parts and fringe players like you're suggesting wont get it done nor will a future first be enticing, if you assume that we improve to some degree with JUH to kick to inside F50.

They're already flush with midfielders across the age spectrum at the moment too so not much point offering them more midfield depth.

As an aside Jamarrah's contract number to get him away from the Doggies would also have to be astronomical over a longer teem and well out of step with his production to this point.
Thanks for the reply. I think you’re right, there probably isn’t anyone.

The interesting thing for me though would be how a nomination by JUH to one specific club might change things. I’d expect any offer we (or anyone else made) would be significantly higher than any Dogs’ offer, so it would be a tough choice for the Dogs who would have to match or risk losing him.

Offering $1m and massive trade capital for JUH?
Not sure that is smart

There will be plenty of players putting their hands up to leave the dogs this year if Bevo remains imo. Bloke is cooked, some of the decisions he’s making, both in regards to selection and on field moves are bizarre.

“Ned Moyle did well in his one senior appearance so far this season and showed he's ready for a recall with 19 disposals, 43 hitouts, seven clearances and one goal”
I would love to poach Moyle. Think he’ll be a class ruck for a long time, and could split time with Cameron 50:50

We also don’t really know what he’s like behind closed doors and how he handles all the other coaching duties that aren’t related to game day. If his match performances are anything to go by, not well. Would have made a few enemies at the club.

They hired new assistant coaches at the end of 2022 then proceeded to sack them at the end of 2023. That wouldn’t be too popular. There were also allegations of fighting within the Dogs, too.

Fair enough. If players aren’t getting games and haven’t featured at AFL level, it’s hard to leverage much.

Busslinger could be obtained cheaply but he wouldn’t be my first Bulldogs priority.

If Fin doesn’t have 40 disposals and five goals today in the VFL, he’ll be a bust, one to delist a year early and was only taken because of his brother.
There’s no need for hyperbole. But a midfielder in his 4th season should be dominating the 2’s if he’s tracking as an AFL mid

Those are the kind of numbers Witts was putting up in the VFL in his final year with us. Whoever gets Moyle will be getting a quality ruckman, likely on the cheap.

Maybe there is a world where you play Mihocek, Reef and Johnson. I really liked GWS forward set up against us with Hogan, Ricciardi and Cadmen. It was pretty mobile with their blend of talls and smalls, also always seemed to have a marking option. Even though we did defend poorly and Dean was not ready I wonder if our lack of talls up forward would be helped with an extra option and if that would allow both Reef and Johnson to play better.

I thought in pre season that looked the best set up we had.
