True - but it’s all about risk management.
Trades are known quantities and have exposed form in the AFL. Drafting of kids who are unproven in the cauldron of AFL is far riskier.

Yep. pick 12 will go out due to academy selections and the picks in the 50s will come in due to matching picks - so it looks balanced to me.

I reckon he’ll struggle to get a game next season with Perryman and Houston coming in, Mitchell and DeGoey back and, hopefully, further development of Allan.

Agree, he'd also provide an ability to rotate forward/back with Howe if we need to mix things up, he's an excellent reader of the play and he has very good hands. Adds to our ability to control the play (good extra back when we want to slow down the game, handy forward when we want to press) - reckon he's one player who would benefit significantly from a Houston 60m bomb.

Makes me wonder why Saints aren't re-signing him?

While Houston provides run, he’s a different type to Noble. Taller and relies on his size to break lines instead of pace.

Yes, fair point. With our new recruits, I see Lippa on the fringe of our Best 23, along with Sidebottom, WHE, McCreery, Allan and Harrison (once recovered). Injuries will probably ensure that all of them get regular games in the seniors.

On all time draft misfires I would like to reflect on the Scum’s 2017 draft

Had two picks in the Top 10 and they got Dow at 3 and O’Brien at 10 for the Gibbs trade. One now playing for Sandy and the other out of the league at 25.
